History

Cincinnati Law

The University of Cincinnati College of Law has a long and storied history. Established in 1833, it is the fourth oldest continuously operating law school in the country and predates many modern legal institutions.

Timothy Walker, Edward King, and Judge John C. Wright of the Ohio Supreme Court founded the Cincinnati Law School, which began with 17 students studying in a downtown office. Soon after, the Cincinnati Law School became part of Cincinnati College and gained the authority to confer degrees. In 1885, UC Law was the only law school in Ohio before further expansion.

UC Law is steeped in legal history. Over its long and illustrious past, it has played a critical role in the development of American legal education. From its earliest days, UC Law has trained some of the best and brightest minds in the field, with alums who have become judges, legislators, attorneys general, and even U.S. Supreme Court justices.

Those accepted into the law school are notified immediately, while individuals not initially accepted may be added to a waiting list in case any spots open up later. The Admissions Committee continues to evaluate applications until the late spring months, so applicants should expect their decision within this timeframe. Those admitted will be given instructions on how to proceed with the next steps of enrollment.

JD Admission Requirements

Completed Regular Decision

Application Fee

The University of Cincinnati College of Law is dedicated to providing an academically talented and diverse student population with a quality education. To this end, the College waives the application fee for any applicant who submits their application before January 15th. After that date, a non-refundable $35 fee must be included with the application submission. All applicants are encouraged to take advantage of the LSAC’s need-based fee waiver program. This program waives the application fee for those who demonstrate a need. The College of Law will also consider other requests from applicants on a case-by-case basis.

Law School Admission Test (LSAT) Score(s)

The University of Cincinnati College of Law requires that all prospective students take the LSAT as part of their application process. Before applying, the recommended time to take this test is June, July, August, October, January, or February. However, April, May, and June LSAT scores will be considered if the application is submitted by March 15th. It is also strongly suggested that if a student's first LSAT score is significantly lower than the school's published median, they should retake the exam to improve their chances of being accepted.

Two Letters of Recommendation

Two letters of recommendation must be provided for potential students to be accepted into the University of Cincinnati College of Law. The best way to obtain these references is from a college professor familiar with the applicant's academic achievements and work ethic. However, suppose someone has been out of college for some time, or it is challenging to contact their professors. In that case, other references from employers, supervisors, or attorneys can be provided to demonstrate their qualifications for law school. Transcripts

Prospective students of the University of Cincinnati College of Law are required to complete the Credential Assembly Service (CAS) by registering for LSAC. This process requires applicants to provide official transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate colleges or universities they have attended in order to receive a comprehensive Law School Report from CAS.

Personal Statement

Applicants may use the personal statement to provide insight into the general background and motivation the applicant can bring to the College of Law. The personal statement also serves as a sample of the applicant's writing ability.

Character and Fitness Disclosures

This information is essential, as it may become part of a future bar application in any jurisdiction where the applicant intends to seek admission. Thus, applicants must take care to make sure all questions are answered accurately and honestly. You must have attended a law school to apply to the University of Cincinnati College of Law. An addendum indicating which law school you attended, when you attended, and your reasons for leaving must be included with your application.
