I am switching practice groups into an Investment Fund group, and I am looking for any background reading/resources that might be helpful in terms of hitting the ground running.
Gunner behavior, I know, but I am facing an uphill battle so I'd like to familiarize myself as much as possible before I start work in a month.

most in my group have a copy of this in their office. I like it a lot. Although its crazy expensive so maybe order it when you start work / firm can pay for it out of your book budget.
http://www.debevoise.com/~/media/files/ ... issues.pdf this is a good reference too.
Edit: these are only helpful assuming you're doing PE fund formation work and not focusing on hedge fund work / registered funds.

Awesome - thanks. Think I will see if the firm has a copy before shelling out $300+ myselftfer2222 wrote:https://www.amazon.com/Private-Equity-F ... 1402411251

Bump. Echoing the OP, is there some kind of publication that outlines what industry standards are today? Anything that would be helpful to a junior associate would be great.

Schell is pretty good: https://www.amazon.com/Private-Equity-F ... 1588520889
Levin: https://www.amazon.com/Structuring-Vent ... RPHVJNKEQA
In addition to your firm's library, you could also try local law school libraries. I think there's also a Wachtell guide online that's pretty decent. this is a helpful overview for investment adviser regulation: https://www.sec.gov/about/offices/oia/o ... 042012.pdf
pretty slim chance that you could teach yourself the basic tax aspects, but i've heard good things about Th Logic of Subchapter K: https://www.amazon.com/Logic-Subchapter ... 0314199853
