International BSc Biology, MSc Biology, 3.12, No LSAT yet

Post by GrnDestiny » Sat Apr 17, 2010 3:28 pm

Hello, I have recently been considering Law School.

I am currently in a Master's Biology Program in the USA, with a Canadian Bachelor's Science (Specialist degree in Cell and Molecular Biology)

My current graduate GPA is 3.8-4.0 while my undergradeuate GPA is 3.12.

Assuming I can get more than 168 on my LSAT, what are my chances at the T20 Law Schools in the USA considering my unique background and my being an international student?

Thank you ahead of time.

you will have a shot at a few T20 schools if you get the 168. but it's hard to speculate without a definite score.

your graduate GPA won't count for anything. your graduate degree will be a "soft" factor.

I have heard that Law Schools really like out-of-the norm applicants, and I would imagine that I am falling into that category and it gives me an edge?

If I may ask, what T20 schools accept international applicants, and perhaps if I may also ask which school will I most likely be able to hit?

Thanks ahead of time~~~ This is my first time asking anyone about Law School if anyone can tell

I don't really know if some schools prefer international students more than others. I think it's the other way around -- int'l students tend to cluster in big coastal areas like NYC, SF, and LA. At Hastings for instance we have a ton of international people.

I think one school to look at is Northwestern. They tend to prefer low gpa/high lsat people with work experience. I can tell you that almost all schools will reduce your application to 2 numbers -- LSAT and GPA. That means you will struggle at most top schools unless your LSAT score is high.

Which country are you from? Schools like diversity but south asians and asians in general are highly represented in most schools already. Hence they tend to get less of a 'diversity' boost, or none at all depending on the school.
