Still v. unclear as to how to gauge softs, but I just used that Reddit post as a guide cuz I always believe what I read on the internet!rowdy wrote:I'm just here to see every person mark their softs as average or better.
Also, should we have caliber of UG institution? Like Ivy/Top 20/Top Public, etc.

IMHO all softs fall under the category of "Popeye," that is, "I Yam What I Yam."heyduchess wrote:Still v. unclear as to how to gauge softs, but I just used that Reddit post as a guide cuz I always believe what I read on the internet!rowdy wrote:I'm just here to see every person mark their softs as average or better.

Re: 2017-2018 Admissions Spreadsheets
Do we have a reliable guide for how admissions folks break these schools into groupings? Is a Stanford or Duke or Chicago degree viewed significantly differently from one from Brown, Dartmouth, or Cornell? Which public schools make the cut as "top public"? I agree that the type of school you come from matters, and we've got some evidence that the admissions folks at the top law schools care, but I'd prefer we get something that corresponds to their thinking rather than guess at it. There's a great potential to introduce noise, here.heyduchess wrote:Still v. unclear as to how to gauge softs, but I just used that Reddit post as a guide cuz I always believe what I read on the internet!rowdy wrote:I'm just here to see every person mark their softs as average or better.

Yeah, we can add a column like that, but it won't collect data for analysis, just user review.heyduchess wrote:top public is: berk, ucla, mich, uva, unc historically.wmbuff wrote:Do we have a reliable guide for how admissions folks break these schools into groupings? And added, for those who want to compare degrees. No analysis on these new columns but what you do in your head.wmbuff wrote:Yeah, we can add a column like that, but it won't collect data for analysis, just user review.heyduchess wrote:top public is: berk, ucla, mich, uva, unc historically.wmbuff wrote:Do we have a reliable guide for how admissions folks break these schools into groupings? Re: 2017-2018 Admissions Spreadsheets
I've added an interview field and dates for the request and the interview to Virginia, Northwestern, Cornell, Texas, Georgetown, Vanderbilt, and Wash U. Do any of the others do interviews often enough to be worth collecting that data?

Re: 2017-2018 Admissions Spreadsheets
It's just an index that lawschool22 developed to help us get an idea of our relative strengths as applicants. It doesn't represent anything on the schools' end necessarily, but may serve as a proxy for the indexes some of them use.jel2184 wrote:Im a newbie to these but what does LS22 index mean? how do i view themwmbuff wrote:Four cycles ago, lawschool22 created these incredible spreadsheets. The past three cycles, Xylocarp, BenWyatt, and GoBucks6612 updated them and I've taken it upon myself to do it this cycle. Twiix was originally planning to take on the task this cycle, but when I contacted him with an offer to help do some for the UT-USC portion of the rankings, he said he's been on a break from the forums, and asked if I wanted to o ahead and do them. I have chosen to extend the list down to USC, since the rankings groups through them seem to have solidified, and I am personally applying to several of them (and it solves the question of adding UT vs. dropping GULC neatly).
They're a great way for us to get some helpful information and analysis about our fellow TLS applicants and get a sense for where we fall within the pack. These spreadsheets are only useful if we keep them updated with accurate information and the more information we have, the better!
Please ensure all dates are correct and that you choose from the appropriate dropdown menus (i.e. choosing "Pending" instead of typing "pending"). Not doing so or entering incorrect dates can cause formulas to break down.
OPs of relevant admissions threads, I'd suggest adding these to the post so they're easy to reference.
Let me know if you notice any issues with the spreadsheets so I can fix them as needed.
Please don’t edit anything other than your own line of info, including sorting the data or filtering it in any way! If you want to do those things, go to file → make a copy, and then do whatever you want to your copied version.
I'm still tinkering with the formatting on these, but intend to add interview and Why X data where appropriate. If you have any other suggestions, I may try to accommodate them, depending on feasibility.
