I think it depends on what you hope to get out of specializing in international human rights law. If you're hoping to go straight into working for the UN or prosecuting at the Hague, that's pretty unrealistic. Sure, it happens for a few, but you should have back-up plans. There are A LOT of other organizations out there that focus on human rights and international development (ie Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International, USAID, United States Institute for Peace, prosecuting hate crimes in the FBI, National Endowment for Democracy, etc). You might be practicing law, or you might be working at a JD-advantage career. I think you just have to be open to any opportunity that comes along, and know that the actual job probably won't be bringing you the kind of life that Amal Clooney has. Additionally, I think if you're hoping to go into international human rights, it helps to specialize in a certain area, whether that be a regional area or an area of development expertise. Disclaimer though, take all of this advice with a grain of salt because I haven't actually graduated and gotten a job yet lolAvatarMeelo wrote:+1 on the IHR stuff.dasseeker wrote:Those seem like pretty strong reasons to attend then. I too originally had an interest in international human rights law, but the general consensus here seems to be this is "unicorn law" and only achievable by a special few. Do you have a different understanding of that?rebelynn wrote:I'm not sure how accurate those numbers are, but GW remains one of my top choices because I want to do international human rights law. It has a loan repayment program for graduates in public interest, a great location for potential in/externships, and an option for a dual degree JD/MA in Middle East Studies.dasseeker wrote:Compete 10/30

Serious question for those wanting to attend. How can you possibly justify attendence with an estimated CoA of 350k? Even if you land a full tuition scholarship you are still looking at 200k in debt, barring other financial assistance or existing savings you may have. The opportunities a GW law education could afford don't seem to justify this risk and expense. I've decided that under no circumstances will I attend because of this.

Is there a trend in the waves of decision made emails being sent out? i.e. WL/rejections get sent earlier in a batch, and acceptances get sent later in a batch? Or do you guys think it's just random timing?

Don't give up!! There will definitely be plenty of waitlist movement. If you're still really keen on GW, make sure they know it! Best of luck.KayHSC wrote:Waitlisted.

Looking at everyone's stats above, I'm definitely getting dinged or waitlisted. Weird, cause it seemed like last year a lot of people with similar stats got in. Oh well. Sorry to hear the bad news guys, I'm sure I'll be joining you in a few days. =(
