Really? I was unaware of that, too. That sucks.patfeeney wrote:On top of that, for a city of 30,000 in the middle of nowhere, Ithaca is an expensive place to live. Philadelphia prices for farmland housing.Will_McAvoy wrote:Sorry to hear all the bad news, as well.
From a few pages back, though -- tuition is seriously to 57k? That's insanity.
But the area is fantastic and oh so scenic.

I've read that about a 100k scholarship still has you in 170K debt (about 270 COA).Will_McAvoy wrote:Really? I was unaware of that, too. Re: Cornell c/o 2017 Applicants (2013-2014)
I live on South Hill (Ithaca College neighborhood). I'm paying $750/month for a 300-sq.ft. studio. Luckily it includes all utilities except for AC and internet. I've toured some of the apartments at Cornell. The cheapest studio I could find on East Hill had 6" high windows, dingy yellow lighting, smaller than my current apartment, smelled of cigarette ash, and on top of that was next door to the Chapter House, one of the more famous Cornell pubs. $750/month, no utilities.Will_McAvoy wrote:Really? I should point out that I live with my girlfriend, so the two of us have to split the cost. Once you get four-plus people living in one apartment, you can get pretty spacious but older 2 or 3 bedroom places for under $1300/month. Cornell does have a lot of new and sexy student apartments, but they're $1200+ with no utilities.
The problem is that, during the school year, more than half the city's population is students. Ithaca students are mostly New Englanders, and I know a lot of people from Greenwich, CT and Nantucket. Cornell is, you know, Cornell. Prices can be ridiculous.
If anyone wants, I can write a short guide to Ithaca living. 3+ affirmative posts and I'll do it.

What's with all the reserves? I'm beginning to think I was only spared because of my proximity to the campus.Rangers5 wrote:Reserve. 3.4x 173, this one hurts

Do emails come out all at once or do they come sporadically? And when do they stop being sent? Is it safe to say they stop sending emails after 5?

More like WL since they won't take people off until after the deposit deadline(s).Pishee77 wrote:+1 Also do we know on average how likely it is to get off reserve for Cornell?HouseTargaryen wrote:Reserve. 172/3.6x. YP??

There's usually a good deal of reserve movement. Not sure how it'll play out if you're above both 75ths. And they usually don't give much $$ off reserve.

Reserved as well.
I may be removing myself from the pool voluntarily however.
Good luck to those of you on the reserve list I'm sure if you write a strong LOCI there should be a lot of people withdrawing in the next month or so to go elsewhere and you'll have your shot.
