Reach George Washington
URM Nope
No optional essay, but applied really early and strong background in IR and noted my desire for International/Comparative law.

With those numbers is it really considered a reach?liyorah wrote:GPA: 3.94 ; LSAT: 166

That's definitely not too much of a reach. She's a reverse splitter who got into a school that's known for being friendly to reverse splitters. Now, if you end up in somewhere where you're at or below both 25ths in general, that's a reach.

I figured. I don't know, maybe I'm being a little salty, but when people are like 170/4.0 (exaggeration) and are like "I got into my reach school!", I kinda shake my head a little. Internetz for ya.

Accepted into William and Mary with a scholarship! Most likely because of my research and community work during my undergrad, and my two years of professional work experience as an Economic Researcher at one of the Federal Reserve Banks

That's pretty interesting. At an interview for a different school, I was asked whether I was conservative or not; I just asked if it was a trick question and the interviewer laughed lol.liyorah wrote:GPA: 3.94 ; LSAT: 166

haven't read through this entire forum, but does anyone know if those optional "if you don't think your grades/scores accurately reflect your ability to succeed in law school, please tell us why" supplements do any good?

From what I've heard, it depends on your GPA, the target GPA of the schools you're applying to, and the reason you will give them.
Also, I believe it is better to let the adcoms come to their own conclusion as to why your GPA is lower than normal after reading your PS or other essays.
For example, if there was a great difficulty you went through and had to overcome during your undergraduate year, you can write about it in your personal statement and tie it in to some positive characteristics. Without you even having to say anything about your GPA, the adcoms will know why your GPA might be lower than normal.
This only applies if you're a splitter, though. If your GPA and your LSAT matches, then yeah, it might be smart to write that addendum.

Re: I made it into my "REACH"
3.79/164
URM: N (white male)
NAME OF REACH SCHOOL: Cornell
Optional Essay: N (but I did answer the "Why Cornell?" question in the application)
What I think got me in: applied ED early in cycle, very strong personal statement, excellent letters of recommendation, high GPA with two challenging majors, undergrad and work experience in STEM, native New Yorker, well-rounded (music, student-athlete)
Here are my dates:
Submitted - 9/13
Received - 9/14
Complete - 9/20ish?
Interview requested - 10/24
Interview completed - 10/30
Accepted via phone call - 11/2
Accepted via email - 11/4 (I think the status checker updated as well on this date)

Re: I made it into my "REACH"
What am I missing here? These numbers should not get one into Michigan. URM? Legitimately unique and amazing softs? Just a really excellent PS, optional essays and LoR's? My GPA's a bit lower than yours, but my LSAT is much higher, and numbers-wise Michigan was definitely a reach apply for me. I'm just curious to hear more of your story and what you think got you in.Justtrying2help wrote:Gpa:~3.3

My reach was Michigan. Apply everywhere you want to go ymmv.
Or, I'm misreading this, and you didn't get in (yet anyway), you're just mentioning that you've applied. In that case, carry on lol.

I think so, but that's quite subjective I think (fwiw, I wasn't a fulbright/rhodes/etc scholar or anything). At the very least, I had a really compelling personal statement.studyingeveryday wrote:Whoa, congrats!! Did you have above average softs?awh wrote:GPA: 3.97 LSAT: 160

Right after the September Lsat score release.[/quotesckon wrote:GPA: 3.47 , LSAT 166

NAME OF REACH SCHOOL(S) Notre Dame
Optional Essay: Yes, Why Notre Dame
Finally, what you think (totally subjective) got you into that school.
Visited and talked with admissions. Sold myself well imho.
Edit: I think we should also add what month you sent in applications.
Honestly with that LSAT you weren't really a reach. Those are pretty solid numbers for NDLS. Congrats though!
