I originally (high school) wanted to own a party boat rental company on the east coast. I know nothing about boats..or the ocean..they are fun though.

Ideally: author/writer... but I don't have the chops..

I wanted to be a newspaper reporter. Then I realized I was born about 40-50 years too late.

Lots of other things have piqued my interest (magazine/travel/outdoor writing, teaching, fighting fires, becoming a rambling folk/country singer-songwriter). But when I'm honest with myself, I know that lawyering is likely the single best fit.

However, if I could find some half-viable path to becoming a TV/Hollywood comedy writer (with No. 1, Grade-A, Best-Top-Job goal of landing a gig with The Daily Show), then law school could go to hell.

Somehow, what I wanted to be was a lawyer, but I have been many other things instead, Camp director, program manager, school teacher, and now, I am going to Law School. In the end, I would love to be able to travel with my wife and work overseas as a missionary, but hopefully that will be a retirement dream come true.

fighter pilot for about 5 years after Top Gun came out. Oh, Top Gun was this movie from before you were born, it was really good.

Wanted to go to college for aerospace engineering to work on air and space crafts, killed that because job prospect was bad. Wanted to be a professional hockey player but I was too small. Didn't want to give up the professional athelete dream so I went to race motorcycles instead, gave up my entire 20's but that's a dream fullfilled so it was awesome, nothing can ever take that away from me. Wanted to be a father and became one. Now I want to be a lawyer.

Is anyone else a little depressed by this forum? It is comforting to know that other people have things they would rather being doing than law school, but why are we all abandoning what we really want to do for law school?

Pretty sad observation, but the world would probably be a better place if we all became what we had originally intended to become, instead of turning to law school... but I just can't waste this score!
