First off, congratulations! While it can be a tough slug, the next three years of your life are also going to be some of your most memorable - and NU is a fantastic place to be.
Now shamelessly, for those who haven't found an apartment yet, I'm here to plug my own. It's a 2-3 bedroom/2 bath unit (my two other roommates and I have been living in it as a 3 bedroom for the past two years) located at 860 N Dewitt Pl. It's a 5-minute walk from school, has a coffee shop on the first floor, and is fully renovated with an in-unit washer/dryer. It also has a doorman 7 days a week (perfect for when those Amazon packages come during class) as well as a rooftop deck with a beautiful view, a great common area, and a gym. It's nearly 1600 SqF and 3945$ a month (with the first month only being 3800$).
Available for move in at the start of August. It's a great spot and an incredible value for the location to boot. I've attached a craigslist link that has some pictures and a more comprehensive list of amenities. If anyone is interested, feel free to email me at
n-brown2017@nlaw.northwestern.edu.
Good luck all!

1. Can confirm this place (quoted) is great and super convenient.
2. Anyone in the market for a queen bed/mattress and a writing/computer desk? All were brand new in 2014. Would need to be picked up on either July 30th or 31st from the Streeterville area. If so, PM me!

What kind of laptops are people getting? I'm thinking of going with something the school recommends like a dell xps, but I don't know if that's overkill or not

I'm just using my 3-4 year old Macbook Air and getting a new $129 battery.

Do Microsoft computers still do that thing where they update with no warning? I had a friend lose a few minutes on an exam from that so be wary of that.

Surely there's a way to disable that, but...

From what i've been told by people that understand computers much better than me, the school recommendations are a little overboard for basic notes/word processing.
On the other hand, how long has it been since you've seen those "dude, you're getting a dell" commercials?

Just to confirm--has anyone received the Dean's reading list (as referenced in the Ad Comm Checking In email) or is that still TBD

I'm making the move up a week from today (the 6th), and I couldn't be more excited to spend a couple weeks downtown before starting school. Feel free to me know if any of you all get into the are early and want to meet up and hangout.
ETA: hangout activities limited to activities that broke as fuck people engage in

I strongly recommend you all try out the Twisted Spoke's smut n eggs if you get a chance. Porn, amazing breakfast food, bloody marys, etc. Incredibly fun and weird.

just noticed classes are up in Caesar (NOT a section announcement - idk when those are released). I was curious about schedules so I went through for all four sections. Everyone will have Civpro, Contracts, Crim, and one of Property/Torts. Schedules are pretty uniform:
MTW:
8:45-9:40
(one of) 9:50-10:45, 10:55-11:50
(one of) 1:30-2:25, 2:35-3:30
ThF:
10:25-11:50
1:30-2:55
So whoever told me at ASW that everyone would have 9a classes MTW was right!

not first term at least in terms of picking classes or anything like that. I could have sworn I was told there was some questionnaire they'd send around to balance classes (in a variety of ways) but that could have been a different school!
At some point in the next few weeks they will just give us our schedule (
section breakdown here). The four sections will follow the four schedules I posted here.
We do get to pick two electives Spring term - so we'll have Conlaw, the other Property/Torts that we didn't do first term, whatever the legal writing class is called, and our two electives.

Awesome, thanks for the info! To be clear, do we have four or five classes the first semester? I thought I read the legal reasoning/writing class was a two semester class, but I can't find where I read that...
