hey guys!
just wondering if you have any advice about housing? i'm putting munger as my first choice, but in the sad event that that doesn't pan out, what are good second/third options?

Depends on your situation(single/couple), preferences, and cost.lawschoolisfornerds wrote:hey guys!

For single students, there are all sorts of options in EV ranging from studios, efficiency doubles, Kennedy Graduate Housing, and Rains. For couples there are fewer on-campus options, because you're basically just down to studios and one bedrooms.
There's been renovations to various parts of EV and scheduled renovations to other parts, so some units will be newer/older.
Stanford also has subsidized off-campus options.

Housing question: if I want normal Munger housing with other law students, should I choose "4.5 bath, open academic year only, not renewable" or the other Munger 4 bedroom option? Not intending to stay in the area for 1L summer.

Re: Stanford Law School c/o 2019
SLS student who wandered here randomly and saw only the bottom post - this advice is probably written in a million tls posts but is very important: if you want to live in Munger make sure to select a year-long lease even if you want to be elsewhere in the summer. There is *no penalty* for canceling your lease at the end of the academic year, *but* you get the option to renew the lease if you want to stay in the building. Academic year leases automatically end and you have to re-enter the lottery if you want to stay in Munger. There is no upside to an academic lease and no downside to choosing a year-long lease.

Congrats to everyone who's made it here.
I really hope to join you guys but for now I come to you from the WL thread, and I'm trying to recruit anyone who'd be kind enough to help keep track of the number of people in the FB group since SLS seems to remove people who don't commit (aka allows us to approximate the amount of spots opening up).
See link here: http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... 7&t=263662
Thank you!

NBA Draft Lottery made me happy, but, damn, the Stanford housing lottery was a stone-cold killer

Whatever you got, hold onto it if you can. Returning students who aren't renewing leases are going to find it basically impossible to get back on campus--over the next three years (until 2019), Stanford is going to be renovating large swaths of Escondido Village. Off campus can be reasonably priced if you're willing to look and share a house with 2-3 other people, but if you want to live alone it's generally more expensive. (Compare, for instance, the EV studio at ~1400 (which also includes electricity, laundry, internet) to craigslist studio postings (generally ~1800+). Munger is more comparable to off-campus prices but is generally much nicer than what you'll get for the same price off campus.4thand9 wrote:NBA Draft Lottery made me happy, but, damn, the Stanford housing lottery was a stone-cold killer

I ended up with a studio in EV, my first choice, but I got a pretty low lottery number (657 of 3500). I hope that everyone else here fared well, but it sounds like that wasn't the case.

Hi guys! Just admitted to SLS off the wait list and I'm trying to decide between here and HLS. I won't be able to visit, but was wondering if anyone would be willing to share why they opted for SLS over HLS, or just how the ASWs of the two schools compare (because I was admitted off the wait list, I missed the SLS admit weekend). Feel free to PM if you would rather. Thanks!

Hey everyone, recently admitted off the waitlist, trying to figure stuff out within the next few days. Does anyone know what the likelihood would be of getting Munger in the July lottery? Is it any different for someone off the waitlist?

Curious about this as well for the same exact reason lol. But I haven't received an email yet FWIW.kiwi00 wrote:Admitted from the waitlist as well! You can just call or email Dean Deal to accept the offer. Congrats!!AshburtonGrove wrote:Curious about this as well for the same exact reason lol. Checking in off the waitlist as well. 95% sure I'll pay up and join you all in the fall!
Just starting to look, but what are my housing options at this point? Any chance I can still get into Munger?

I think general move in for 1L is 29th (Monday).
You can request an early move-in, but your rent gets prorated out for those additional days.
Calling the front desk of your assigned housing should help clear things up.
