Ah ok, right on. Still getting used to this strange new world, where I don't have a contract. This tiny place I work for (~25 employees) definitely pays no severance. Given how regularly people get fired, that'd eat up way to big a chunk of their budget. Anyhow, I do kinda suck at my job, but fortunately not so much they have had security walk me out yet. Trying to keep it that way for another 58 days.NoBladesNoBows wrote:Nah dude this is a thing in America as well. "With cause" refers to major fuck-ups such as sexual harassment, surfing porn at work, stealing stuff, etc. and you get no severance for that. Performance related means that they think you suck at your job, and you do get severance for that. Then there's also getting laid off, which generally gets you even more severance.
All of this assumes that your company pays severance at all, which is not a legal requirement, but any large/respectable company will do to avoid potential lawsuits from disgruntled employees.

Right. Mostly I'm just disappointed that your comment wasn't a joke about severed hands.NoBladesNoBows wrote:Unemployment comes from gov't though, severance comes from company.tuxedocat wrote:Unemployment benefits =! severance. You get unemployment unless you are an extreme fuckup
ETA: oops, CaptainJapan made the original severance comment. Anyway I say less 0L law talk, more talking about Hand getting severed

Gave my job notice that I'll be leaving them at the end of July. These three months are going to feel very long.

WTF do you do if your company's HR is so incompetent as to not respond to multiple emails requesting information on how to quit and informing them you are quitting in 2 weeks?
It would be humorous if I didn't want to quit so badly...

Did you already talk to your boss? Normally you would tell your boss and they handle the HR nonsense.smile0751 wrote:WTF do you do if your company's HR is so incompetent as to not respond to multiple emails requesting information on how to quit and informing them you are quitting in 2 weeks?

Write a letter of resignation and email it to your boss. CC HR. That'll definitely cover your butt till they get back to you.smile0751 wrote:WTF do you do if your company's HR is so incompetent as to not respond to multiple emails requesting information on how to quit and informing them you are quitting in 2 weeks?

Wow, remarkably close to what actually happened.... Except steps 2 and 3 were reversed.Hand wrote:1.
