Any upperclassmen have supplement recommendations for crim law w/ Garvey and property w/ Alexander? I have given up on Civ Pro.

Re: Cornell Class of 2018
Garvey will give you a treatise recommendation that is pretty solid, but you don't really need a supplement for that class as much as a really good self-made outline to teach yourself the differences between the Model Penal Code and the common-law approach.
None of the 2Ls had Alexander, so can't comment on her in particular, but the Moinyhan hornbook was so much better than whatever drivel was in that typo-ridden textbook. Also, flash-card that class, there are a lot of weird terms you should try and learn early on!

Get the criminal law black letter outline by Dressler. Memorize it. Profit.future!jd12 wrote:Any upperclassmen have supplement recommendations for crim law w/ Garvey and property w/ Alexander? I have given up on Civ Pro.

Understanding Property by Sprankling
Understanding Criminal Law by Dressler
???
Profit
Source: Actually had Alexander. And Garvey. Outline to memorize difference between MPC and CL is definitely key though.

For Garvey:
1) Understanding Crim Law by Dressler (as previously mentioned by posters above)
2) Criminal Law Black Letter Outline by Dressler
3) Delaney Crim Law
4) Criminal Law Model Answers and Outstanding Problems
Also, i can't stress this enough, go see him at his office. He's great in office hours for specific questions.
ETA: Never had Alexander, so I have no clue about his exam, but I found this book to be particularly awesome for the whole thing about Present and Future estates http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/142249 ... CV70Q2BDA3

clshopeful wrote:Any idea on transfer statistics? Cornell doesn't accept many... I think so they don't have to release the GPA info to the 509.... But anyway, do you know transfers that are now at cornell, and if so, do you know their last law school and their GPA??
Cornell accepting < 5 transfers every year because the school almost certainly has nothing to do with not wanting to release GPA info on the 509s. I think there were only two this year.

Hard to say since Colb has never taught CrimLaw and Torres has never taught Property (at least recently and at Cornell).Pragmatic Gun wrote:Good evening guys,

or should I just look at the list provided by Lavitz?
- CrimLaw with Colb
Property with Torres
I'm assuming Colb will use the Dressler casebook. She used Dressler for Criminal Procedure, and Dressler's Understanding CrimPro hornbook worked great for that. So the Understanding CrimLaw hornbook by Dressler should still be TCR. If she uses an all multiple choice exam like she does for Evidence and CrimPro, then maybe the Model Problems and Outstanding Answers book may be less useful for her than for Garvey, but probably still helpful.
Torres is a wildcard. I think Alexander and Underkuffler had very different approaches. Alexander touched on takings for 2 days at the end of the semester, whereas I hear Underkuffler was obsessed with takings. All the advice I've seen given for Underkuffler makes no sense for Alexander, and vice versa. You may want to just wait and see what his syllabus looks like and then ask upperclassmen if it's most similar to Alexander or Underkuffler (or Sherwin).

Are grades supposed to be released tomorrow? I can't find the date anywhere. I want to start sending out job apps but if grades are being released soon I may as well wait so I don't have to send out updated resumes.

I think it said somewhere that it was on the 7th this year, and I remember last year it came out on the 7th.future!jd12 wrote:Are grades supposed to be released tomorrow? however, history has shown that grades may come out earlier.
ETA: i doubt they get released tomorrow, but Tuesday is a possibility. who really knows though.

Your analysis is weird. Dates are irrelevant because the days of the week are different every year.runthetrap1990 wrote:I think it said somewhere that it was on the 7th this year, and I remember last year it came out on the 7th.future!jd12 wrote:Are grades supposed to be released tomorrow? Last year it came out on the 7th, but that was a Wednesday. Scoops said Thursday, and they came out a day earlier than the date in Scoops. That happened both semesters last year.
This year, Scoops again says Thursday (the 7th). Hence I predict Wednesday, unless they're even faster than usual and they come out on Tuesday.

Something under 3.5, given the grading policy. I've seen the 3.45-3.5 range thrown aroundsmiles123 wrote:Anyone know what's typically the median after first semester?

Re: Cornell Class of 2018
lock at NYU (seriously, median stands pretty damn good chances at NYU), good shot at Columbia. You're almost certainly somewhere between top 15-25% right now (i would guess top 20%), and not anywhere near striking distance at H, assuming you kept the exact same GPA second semester. I wouldn't focus on transferring right now, though. I would focus on maintaining/increasing grades, and rocking your second semester. Congratulations on your grades!!future!jd12 wrote:where would a 3.71 land someone transfer-wise, would NYU/Columbia or even Harvard be possible?

10% mark is 3.895, about a full point higher than previous years. Interested to see if the median jumped as well, or if this more a result of one too many A+'s in the smaller class sizes. Does the registrar release other marks besides the the top 10%?

They release a 5% and 10% mark officially after 2 semesters. You can call and they'll tell you the dean's list cut off, I believe.CFC1524 wrote:10% mark is 3.895, about a full point higher than previous years. That 10% cutoff is insane though.

Check your unofficial transcript. It will denote whether or not you made dean's list.smiles123 wrote:When does one find out if they've made dean's list?
