I applied to JD Boston a long time ago, accepted a position elsewhere, and withdrew my other applications. I got an email ding (no interview) about a month ago, but idk if that’s because I withdrew. No clue what’s going on there.

Sorry last question, how long after you withdrew did you receive the ding?

DJ clerk checking in...is NYC litigation hiring still very sluggish for everyone? Feels like no one is advertising for post-clerkship positions. Of the ones that are, I haven't gotten a single cold interview from just applying. Every conversation I've had has been the result of a recruiter or a strong reference. Three post-interview rejections (1 after a boutique screener that wasn't a good fit, 1 after final rounds where there was one very specific position open that they wanted more firm experience for, 1 after final rounds where who knows why). I'm currently waiting to hear back from PW after final rounds and am optimistic/still within the normal time window, but if that doesn't pan out I have no leads. I don't really want to go back to my summer firm but if I don't have any other options I may have to. And even then I'm not 100% positive they have a spot for me given that I haven't been in contact since Summer 2021.

My judge is shocked how slow it's been for me and my co-clerk. I reached out to her old firm with the referral of her friend two weeks ago and haven't even heard anything from them. And the firms I talk to seem to think I'm inundated with options. So I don't get what's up. Just not how I saw it going at all and wanted to vent.

Litigation has been brutal in Boston and my new York contacts say and said the same thing for last two cycles. It's crazy.

100% agree. I’m a bankruptcy clerk in a major jurisdiction (SDNY/DE/SDTX) and it’s brutal for us too. I’m absolutely shocked

SDNY clerk here, received 3 interviews and 2 offers. All of the other SDNY clerks I know have received 1-2 offers as well. Not so bad. Just apply broadly and keep grinding.

I clerk for a DJ in California. Anecdotally, my co-clerks who applied to firms in Cali had much more success than those who applied to firms in other markets like NY/DC/Chicago. It seems logical that it would be more difficult to get a job with an out of market firm, but at the same time it's unexpected.

What were the general stats of you and the people who got offers. You said SDNY so I assume at least top 25% at T14 right or approximate?

Above poster here. Must have manifested something because I found out yesterday I'm getting an offer! Started applying in January and it took this long. Hang in there, everyone.

I went to a T20 (not a T14) and was in the top 25% and the other clerks I know with multiple offers went to a T40 and were also in the top 25% and I think they were all in law review as well. All of us had between 2-4 years of experience at V50 biglaw firms.

I seem to be late to the party, recently finished my clerkship and am looking to start in the fall (litigation). I assume it's still worth it to apply broadly? Any advice for someone in my position in terms of timing?

How competitive are you aside from the clerkship and have you worked in biglaw before? Advice is probably going to differ if this is top 10% at T6 versus median at T14 and if you have prior biglaw experience.

Top third at T14 and have not worked in biglaw. I do not necessarily come into this with high expectations given the lack of a firm on my resume.

Normally with someone like this I'd recommend being fairly narrow, but it's super late. Was this a last minute change? May be worth applying to 2024 clerkships to see if you can start fresh again with apps. I don't have the best advice on this, though, so someone more knowledgeable than me hopefully will step in.

The only real advice is to apply to any position that’s still open. Boutique firms are likely done hiring at this point, but at least some Big Law firms might still have openings. I know Ropes in New York just did their clerkship reception, so I’d check there.

I got a recruiter email about BraunHagey & Borden (SF and NY offices only I think) so it looks like they are still hiring on the boutique side. I know nothing about the firm itself but can't hurt to apply?

Not familiar with the NY office of BraunHagey but the SF office is pretty toxic from what I've heard, just as a heads up.
