Asking For Interviews

Post by Anonymous User » Fri Nov 04, 2016 10:50 pm

So bad subject line... but I have applied to several to federal CoA clerkships for 2018. I'm a qualified candidate within the range of clerks these two judges have hired in the past. I am going to be in the city of their chambers during Christmas break. Has anyone had a good (or bad) experience with reaching out to chambers just to say I'm going to be in town and would love to have an interview? I'm legitimately going to be in town for other reasons. How long should I wait to do this? A few weeks before? I applied two or three weeks ago.

It's one thing if you're traveling to a city for another clerkship interview, but if you're in town for anything else it looks unseemly to try forcing the judge's hand into getting an interview IMO.

I don't think it's unseemly - some judges are sensitive to the cost and burden of travel (as long as it's actually a long, burdensome trip). Of course, lots aren't, and there's also a decent chance that the judge(s) will be out for some of the holidays, but I think the risk of it negatively affecting OP's candidacy is small.
