Re: UVA Class of 2016
I'm very excited to have been admitted to UVA with a pretty good scholarship. Barring something on the level of a full-ride offer from a T6 (not gonna happen in any universe for me), I'm spending the next three years in Charlottesville!

Congrats and double congrats on the $$$! I'm going to see if they'll give me some $ after fall grades are in - unlikely since I ED'd and my GPA will still be super low, but you never know!2012Split177 wrote:I'm very excited to have been admitted to UVA with a pretty good scholarship. School took over for a while (I'm in the hardest coursework in the business school this semester). I'm thinking of moving in around mid-june or early july. I want to get settled and accustomed to the area before school starts. I'm thinking Jeffersonian right now and might be up for a roommate since its dirt cheap if you go that route. Still have to think things through.Br3v wrote:Shadow I havent seen you post in awhile how have you been? I won't be visiting until accepted students day in March. Way too busy with school and senior year (most weekends are taken up by BU Hockey games in Boston/the New England area or visiting the gf).

This is kind of how I'm feeling. Debt averse is making UVA look like a damn good bet.2012Split177 wrote:I'm very excited to have been admitted to UVA with a pretty good scholarship. I love it! Even makes the parking lot look nice.Br3v wrote:Thread needs pics
When I was there for a tour back in October they were doing internal renovations on some classrooms and public spaces, so that should be all done and cherry when we move in next August.
It's all so exciting! I'm a grown man, getting giddy...

Congrats everyone!
Perhaps we should briefly discuss housing options. I hear Jeffersonian apartments start taking apps 1/1/13... is that the best place to live?

And holy shit that's cheap. Either that or I'm used to downtown Richmond prices.shadowofjazz wrote:It's the most convenient from what I've heard. Close to school and shoppinggaucholaw wrote:Congrats everyone!

It is VERY close and VERY cheap. The only issue is you literally need to send you app in at 12:00am on January 1st, or you have no shot. I think I sent mine like 30 mins late and was so far down I didnt get a spot. Congrats on being admitted to those who have, you will love it here!NoodleyOne wrote:And holy shit that's cheap. I know one person at the Grand Marc. If you dont mind noisy undergrads you wont mind it. Just depends on what kind of person you are. Walking distance to the corner which is nice because it will save you $$ on cabsdanitt wrote:Do you know anyone at the Grand Marc? Do they like it/Do you recommend it? Damn, my NYE plans just took a turn for the boring. Any other info on housing you could give us? What are the other good spots for a good rate?AssumptionRequired wrote:It is VERY close and VERY cheap. Re: UVA Class of 2016
I've been living in apartment buildings for the past 3 years and could really go for a small house. I'm living with my fiancée and she's paying the bills so we can afford something a bit bigger/more expensive. Anyone know of nice, not-too-expensive neighborhoods in the area? Like under $900/month for a small house? Are there row houses/duplexes like are so common in Richmond?
For those of you not familiar with Charlottesville - the Barracks Road shopping center really is everything it's cracked up to be. I'm by no means a fan of suburban-y shopping areas, but having a Harris Teeter/Chipotle/bookstore/etc. all in one place right next to the law school and pretty close to the main grounds/downtown is totally awesome.

I feel silly asking this but the furthest I've ever been in VA is to Fairfax so I have to ask. Is there a regular bus service? Or does UVA have a shuttle or something?

Trying to look for a house as well. Does anyone know if you put it for Jeffersonian in 1/1/13 and get it, are you obligated to live there? Or if you get it, when you would have to completely seal the deal?

Has anyone called career services and asked about the results for OCI last summer? As far as what percentage of the class got offers?

Reviews on Ivy Gardens are pretty bleak... Is this the general consensus? Is it a shithole close to campus or is it not horrible?AssumptionRequired wrote:Could be said about IVYchem wrote:Huntington village is very nice.Walking distance, lots of space.
