Had an interesting day. My loans haven't showed up so I called admissions(grad plus app I just put in last week), they said it was because they don't have my FAFSA on file. Odd, since I filled it out months ago. They told me the school code and said it had to be sent to the school(obviously, I thought). So I check my FAFSA and Cornell University is checked as the school to send it to, but the code is different than the one admissions gave me. I tried putting in the code, which was incorrect and only 4 digits long, instead of the correct 6. Went on Cornell's website and the code on the website was the correct one I had entered on the FAFSA originially. I re-entered the Cornell school code, re-saved it, and I suppose I'll have to call admissions again on Monday to try and clear this up.

Yes. Just go to the Cornell store when you get here. You can save as much as $200, if I remember right.

Could anyone explain the hills to me in relation to the four main areas, the Commons, Collegetown, Cornell and Falls Creek? Like, is it uphill from the Commons to Fall Creek? Collegetown to the Commons? Trying to figure out feasible bike routes around Ithaca!

Google conveniently got rid of topography in the new Google Maps, or I'd link you a map. The Commons and Fall Creek are all flat and downtown on the same level former flood plain. Collegetown and Cornell are both on a big slope East of Downtown/Commons and Fall Creek, respectively. The hill starts at Linn Street or, coming from the Commons, at Aurora. Basically anything East of Aurora and North of East State Street is on a big slope. The hill rises about 300 feet in altitude in about a half mile from the corner of North Aurora and Buffalo up to College Ave at Dryden (which is kind of the epicenter of Collegetown).

Collegetown is basically on the same altitude as campus, although both are on an upward slope from West to East and somewhat from South to North, so depending on in which direction you are headed you may encounter some hills there, too.

Suffice to say if you live by the Commons or in Fall Creek, you will have a massive hill to hike to get to the law school (most people take the bus). If you live it Collegetown, the hill is at least more manageable and possibly nonexistent, depending on where you live.

Also, consider, that 9 months of the year this place is covered in ice/snow.

How do you guys get to NYC from Cornell? Will need to shuttle back and forth quite a bit my first year and am wondering about the cheapest/fastest way. Don't want to drive.

Knew I forgot to add something to the OP. There's a campus to campus bus that goes to NYC, but it's pretty expensive--like $165 round trip.

Cornell's travel site (LinkRemoved) also says there's a Greyhound depot in Ithaca, and that may be a little cheaper.

Then megabus options were discussed earlier, although you'd have to find a way to travel to and from Binghamton.

Also, I was under the impression (maybe due to my own naiveté) that the Cornell (Ithaca) to NYC bus was free (to students) but it's actually 165 dollars r/t. That's crazy. There goes that as a means of transportation.

I hate that it's so expensive to get upstate from NYC for people visiting. The best I found is 31 dollars one way to Syracuse which is a 1 hour ish drive from Ithaca. The direct bus is like 55 dollars one way to Ithaca.

Hell, you can go to Boston from NYC for 15 bucks =X

You can get the megabus from NYC to Binghamton --which is about an hour south of Ithaca. It would be a much shorter bus trip than to Syracuse (about 3 1/2 hours) and if you get it in advance it can be really cheap (like, under $10.) Yeah, the C2C is luxurious, but it's super expensive.

Hey! Thanks for the inside advice. The best I found for NYC to Bing was $39 (http://us.megabus.com/JourneyResults.as ... thReturn=0) .. Am I doing it wrong ? If you do it a month in advance (the furthest it lets you) it's about $24! I'd love ~15 though!

I think the day of the week is a big factor --in this search, you can travel on a Tuesday for $7 (plus the illustrious $1 ticket!) but Friday travel, as well as Saturday-Monday presumably, it goes back up to $24+.

Edit: Shortline may be the best option though.

Getting to Ithaca from Binghamton or Syracuse is a giant pain in the ass unless you have a generous soul willing to drive an hour each way to pick you up. Just suck it up and take the Shortline. I think it's $90 r/t if you're a student. It drops you 200 ft from the law school.

recently took shortline to and from campus to nyc in one day and it wasn't terrible, just took rly long (~5.5 hours each way)
