Good to know, thanks.

Still 50/50 on the 'Diverse' student orientation.

Also, looks like they ran out of room for the prep class, so I won't be there. For those of you who also won't be attending...day drinking? Preferably in a nice, grassy area?
There wasn't an e-mail, the 'Day of Service' is part of the orientation survey. There are like 10 choices and you rank 3 of them if you're interested. Think I chose the park cleanup > packing up food for donations? > forgot third already.

lol @ day drinking, what an alcoholic
count me in!

I also have nothing of value to contribute, except to say that I'm goddamn excited for August 27th!

I'm doing the day of service. Group volunteering is almost always fun and you're giving back to the community!

I'm totally with you on this! Does Chicago have open container laws?

Hey all. I got accepted off the wait list a couple weeks ago and nearly fainted when I got the email. Can't wait to get out of Florida and into Chicago.

I'm seeing that an IKEA journey is happening on the 18th, but I'm not moving into my place until the night of the 21st. Anybody down for going on the 22nd? I'll have a car for a few days and I'm not opposed to making a couple trips.

I'm also wondering if anybody has knowledge about the rec basketball situation at NU. I'm not the most polished player, but I play a lot and it's been my main form of exercise for the past few years. I'm hoping to squeeze in at least a couple hours a week. Anybody have info about intramural or pick-up games?

Pretty sure the school runs a league in the fall. Flips might be your man to ask about that, though.

Technically yes, but as long as you have a koozie for your beer or put your liquor in like a 711 cup, you're generally fine.

And yes, there's intramural basketball, volleyball and soccer. But clearly the drinking is much more important. ;)

Yeah there's a basketball league both semesters that gets teams from both the law school and med school. There are games Wednesday nights and Saturday nights. Wednesday games are at this crappy gym across the street from school. Saturday games are at a much nicer gym nearby. There are two leagues: elite and casual. Elite teams were $250/team, casual were $150/team (i think). Season was 9 games plus playoffs. The guy who ran the IMs graduated so I'm not exactly sure who is running it this year.

Me too. The only "elite" aspect of my game is my ability to show up.

I can shoot... but dribbling... defense... uh, no, wouldn't cut it in the elite league I don't think.

Also remember that you're talking about "elite" in terms of law and med students. Haha

First full day here:
why is every door here revolving..?

Also, from what I've seen so far the girls on average are more attractive than in SF, by a noticeable amount. Less homeless people, less trash, less traffic and not a hill to be had. The lake is gorgeous, too. Pretty awesome city all-around

The revolving doors let less heated air out in the winter. (Or cooled air in the summer, too, I guess.) But they're annoying as all hell, and forget trying to carry a big bag through. I use the normal door if there is one, and if there's not a nasty sign on it telling me to use the revolving door.

I noticed today that the revolving door in Dominick's is broken. Hopefully they replace it with one that actually works properly.

Dominick's aka Safeway, lol. I carried a few bags home from there, not too bad a journey but I ended up getting lost somehow... Lol

What are the grocery store choices in Streeterville? Is it just Trader Joe's and Dominicks?

Plus Treasure Island ("European," whatever that means), and Fox & Obel (fancy-ass).

Thanks rinkrat. Hope treasure island is a decent place, since it's the closest to me. Might freeze and die if I have to slog 10 blocks during winter to get groceries.

I believe European simply means not Dominick's or Jewel. Treasure Island is probably my favorite grocery store here, and there is one two streets over from the school. Plus the Treasure Island here does lunch specials, sandwiches, hot lunches, and occasionally pizza. It's nice when you're tired of Harry's overpriced sandwiches.

European means expensive?

Can you smoke in restaurants, here?

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
