Re: NYU Latin Honors
So for Allen for 2Ls it's probably going to be around like 3.75 right?

Re: NYU Latin Honors
should class of 2022 assume that cutoffs will be higher for us because of P/F during 1L? if so, likely cut off for cum laude/magna/coif? or does anyone know what the cutoff was for provisional coif membership?

Re: NYU Latin Honors
Cut-offs will definitely be higher because of P/F during 1L. In normal years it's around 3.61 for McKay/cum laude and 3.76 for magna/coif. So probably somewhere in between .2 and .4 higher than that for each, respectively for 2022. For some perspective, at HLS the cum laude cutoff is typically 3.6 and this year people with 3.65 didn't get it.

Thanks - super helpful. HLS jump is pretty wild. I wasn't provisionally coif but my GPA was in the range per prior years, so we will see how it pans out when all said and donetalons2250 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 01, 2022 1:25 pmCut-offs will definitely be higher because of P/F during 1L. Sorry, pretty significant typo in my prior post. Cutoffs will probably be 0.02 to 0.04 higher than typical years, not .2 to .4 like I originally wrote!bohabo wrote: ↑Wed Jun 01, 2022 8:41 pmThanks - super helpful. HLS jump is pretty wild. Out of curiosity, where are you getting this 3.76 figure for magna/coif? On TLS, I've seen people with 3.73 and 3.74 say they got Allen and/or magna/coif.talons2250 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 01, 2022 8:50 pmSorry, pretty significant typo in my prior post. Re: NYU Latin Honors
The "3.76" figure was consensus among my group of NYU friends a number of years ago. It appeared to be correct because some of us were in the 3.71-3.74 range and were only cum laude, while others were 3.77+ and were magna/coif. I can't know for certain, but 3.76 seems plausible given that approximately 10% of students in every doctrinal class get an A and many of the people who get As in one class are also getting mostly As with a smattering of A-s in their other classes (and possibly a very occasional B+), throw in the discretionary A+s that most professors give and the more generously curved seminar/clinic classes in 2L and 3L that most people take and it seems plausible that 10% of the class would manage a 3.76 or higher when all is said and done.georgefinishtwow wrote: ↑Wed Jun 01, 2022 10:16 pmOut of curiosity, where are you getting this 3.76 figure for magna/coif? Re: NYU Latin Honors
What would the change be from Allen to Magna and McKay to Cum Laude. I assume it is fairly consistent with probably like a ~0.02ish jump?

Re: NYU Latin Honors
Probably a bigger jump than other years. Because there are fewer graded credits included in the calculation, each new grade has a stronger pull on GPA. So doing well 3L would cause more of a jump than had there been two semesters 1L to anchor the calculation
Allen for class of 22 was >3.75 so I wouldn’t be surprised if magna was closer to 3.78

I take it that NYU also makes an effort to get Butler/Allen/McKay out before clerkship applications are due also right?

2L scholar notations (as in McKay, Allen, Butler) are on transcripts

Anyone care to share their GPA/result to try to determine cutoff? Thanks.

3.75 wasn't enough for Allen but was for McKay.

I got Allen with a 3.8. I didn’t think I was an edge case, so it might not be helpful.

I can’t believe that 3.75 wasn’t high enough for Allen! That’s a bummerpolymorphius wrote: ↑Wed Jun 08, 2022 4:43 pm3.75 wasn't enough for Allen but was enough for Mckay.

He may have been on the literal edge. My friend with a 3.751 (his calculation, not mine, so yes this is hearsay) got Allen.onmars wrote: ↑Wed Jun 08, 2022 9:07 pmI can’t believe that 3.75 wasn’t high enough for Allen! Any 3Ls who graduated in 2022 know what the Magna/Coif cutoff was? Seems like grades have been slightly inflated these past years so wondering what the new cutoff is. 3.76-3.77 maybe?

Re: NYU Latin Honors
Does NYU order of the coif get decided after 5 or 6 semesters? Vaguely recall last year that a 3L said they got coif even though it was like March
