For grandiose historical awesomeness - Marshall.
For "How do you look your colleagues in the eye after calling them stupid for 15 pages?" - Scalia. Just got done reading an establishment clause case where he basically ends his dissent in prayer.

Stevens. I had to take a class on the contracts clause. Reading all the old K clause jurisprudence will make you hate Marshall and his colleagues really, really quick.

Re: Who is your favorite Supreme Court Justice?
Yeah that whole "three generations of imbeciles is enough" thing. Horrible decision and reasoning obviously. Though I think it's pretty tough to find any justice that didn't write something fucking retarded. Even the revered John Marshall wrote Johnson v. M'Intosh where he completely justified the genocide of Native Americans. I mean Scalia has some quirky (sometimes absurd opinions) like dissenting in Lawrence v. Texas.Bildungsroman wrote: I liked his valiant endorsement of eugenics.

Like Scalia for everything but his crim pro opinions. Intellectually dishonest tripe, those are.
I'd say favorite is probably Brennan.

Joseph Story back in the day, he was Marshall's brains.
Scalia without a doubt now.

Rehnquist really makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. On a more serious note I enjoy reading Easterbrook opinions, but he is the 7th circuit.

Justice White. He was basically the real-life version of the "Most Interesting Man in the World" commercial.

Re: Who is your favorite Supreme Court Justice?
It's hard to pick...I like the ones with personality.
Justice Jackson for his opinions, and the fact that he swanned off to Nuremburg for a term to prosecute some Nazis.
The 1950s-era Courts were the best, IMHO. Minton, Reed, and Burton were known as "The Battalion of Death" because they so rarely voted to overturn convictions. Douglas was a womanizer and married a woman 40 years his junior. Black was a former member of the KKK (for political reasons, IIRC) who had a long-running feud with Jackson. Frankfurter used to write these long memos harassing his colleagues about deciding things too broadly, and would talk for hours during conferences.
I rarely agree with the man, but I like reading Scalia's opinions; he's a funny guy. Alito occasionally brings the chuckles -- his recent Jones concurrence was kind of hilarious.
