Getting into a specific section

Post by TTH » Tue Mar 02, 2010 12:44 am

Quick 0L question: Is there any way as an incoming 1L to improve my chances for getting into a particular section/taking a particular professor for a class?

Yeah, but you can't fault me for wanting to take a class from the guy who wrote the supplement.

I would assume it depends on the school. GULC, for example, has its Section 3 which has a different curriculum. You can request that section.

Penn, meanwhile, makes it abundantly clear that it will not accept requests for a particular section.

I suppose if you could show a sufficiently persuasive reason (for example, the Section 1 classes conflict with [insert important shit here], while Section 2 classes do not), but I doubt wanting a particular professor is good enough.

Anyway, I think schools try and give you a good mix of good professors and not-so-good professors. So even if you don't get the one you're gunning for, you'll probably get another bigger name at some point.

Pretty much every single person from my section wishes we were in the other section and the other section laughs at us b/c they love their section. Luck of the draw.

D'oh.

I'm probably going to OSU and was hoping I could be sure I would take Dressler for crim. Guess I'll see if I'm lucky.

If it was explained to me right, the law school here doesn't even assign students to sections themselves. They let the university registrar do that without their involvement at all.
