Odds T2 Michigan School -> U of M Law Forum

I currently have a 3.81 and am top 10% at a T2 law school in Michigan. What are my odds at transferring to U of M given that I will not be forced to lower my GPA due to an optional p/f system. Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks, that is kind of what I have been seeing in the 509 reports and everything else I have read. Historically U of M takes a "large" amount of transfers from my school which I am not sure hurts or helps my chances. Also the option p/f system will allow my gpa to go up but not down.

People from Wayne State and Michigan State transfer to UM all the time, as Fordham/Cardozo/Brooklyn people transfer to Columbia/NYU, Kent/Loyola/DePaul people transfer to Chigago/NW, and Hastings people transfer to Berkeley---it makes sense for most people to go up a tier or two in the same region. I don't think your chances are any better or worse because of it. Where historical acceptance comes into play is if your school were TTT/TTTT and you were trying to determine if your target school "reaches low enough" to take transfers from your school on a regular basis. From where you are, you shouldn't worry about historical acceptance as a factor.

The former is great news. The latter is hard to say, maybe slightly negative. However, every other transfer will have the same thing. Perhaps they take a few less transfers this year but if top 10% from your school generally gets in, I'd guess you have a similarly good shot.

Thank you! I do not have much data on the exact percentiles that are being accepted from my school; however, the GPA spreads seem to indicate that top 10% is the target.

Good chances. Nevertheless, I would blanket the T14 and see where the chips fall.
