UChicago ED Chances?
Hey All,
So I'm currently at a T50-60 school -- not in Chicago's geographic region -- and I just got my first semester grades back. I'm in the top ~6-7% of my class (GPA - 3.77). I have a science background with a PhD (not much help, but maybe a tiny boost).
Wondering what my chances might be at transferring to UChicago through their early decision option... Will I have a good chance or is it a shot in the dark? Any and all opinions would be greatly appreciated. I do have ties to the state of Chicago (family) and I do ultimately want to work in the area for at least the next 7 years.
The reason I'm asking is if it's a so-so chance, then I don't want to prohibit myself from applying to GULC and BU through their ED programs. The catch with applying to UChicago through their ED program is that I won't be able to apply to any other school with just my first semester grades.
Any and all feedback is appreciated!

What do you want to do out of Chicago, GULC, or BU that isn’t available to you at your current school? What’s your purpose for transferring?

If i remember correctly, you can still apply to other schools, but the understanding is that if you are accepted you will withdraw all other applications.
Chances are 50-50 i'd say. Median transfer GPA was 3.74 last year. https://www.law.uchicago.edu/files/Std5 ... -38-43.pdf

I transferred to uChicago ED last year. Based on your gpa you have a fair shot at getting in. Feel free to PM me if you'd like to discuss the ED process and transferring.
Edit:
Also, you can still EA at Georgetown, a lot of the other transfers who did ED did so.

Re: UChicago ED Chances?
You have a fair shot at Chiacgo ED - I'd say 30/70 you getting in.
You can still apply ED to GULC even if you also apply to Chicago ED. Chicago ED is the most restrictive application because if you get in you have to go. There will likely be some overlap while you're waiting on Chicago in May. As in, you'll get 2nd semester grades back before you hear back from Chicago ... so you can still apply to other schools via regular transfer too.
My advice is to 100% apply ED to GULC (you'll get in), pay the deposit, then just have that as a fall back in case your 2nd semester gpa drops and you don't get Chiacgo. In May, apply to all T14 (minus Stanford, Yale, Texas) and only go to one that allows you to participate in summer OCI (important that you apply early enough, but this isn't a problem normally except for like Cornell).
Msg for details if needed. I did all this last year.

Re: UChicago ED Chances?
Thanks for all the feedback and information! I will message a couple of you for some more info/advice.
I'll most likely apply to Chicago ED but also apply to GULC ED as well (as backup). I guess I'll have a clearer picture by the end of this semester but I'm certain my grades won't change by much.

Anecdotally applied with a 3.95 at a similar ranked school didn’t get in ED but got in regular decision. Go for it! Best decision I’ve made. Don’t listen to Tha haters.

Realize I'm posting on a month old thread, but see that PM'ing is no longer an option. Considering transferring to UChicago through ED and would love any advice/anecdotes. Any other way to reach out?joefresh wrote:You have a fair shot at Chiacgo ED - I'd say 30/70 you getting in.

Can't PM you ...
top 5% at a TT gives you reasonable odds. Anything better will give you better odds. ED Chicago is binding.
