Anyone else confused about "sections"? I thought we were supposed to have designated sections of people - and accordingly, section parties, section social events, etc. - but it looks like all the orientation events are being planned for the entire 1L class. Are we supposed to get assigned "sections" at some point?

I believe our legal workshop represents our section, I haven't double checked but we might all our classes with those in legal workshop (at least that's what I took from it)Idiocrat wrote:Anyone else confused about "sections"? Edit: Just checked, yes the members of your legal workshop class will be present in ALL your Fall 1L classes.

It was good! The food was decent, everyone in my group was cool, and we had a pretty good conversation. I'm always down for events where I can meet new people, so it was cool in that regard as well.Sogui wrote:I really enjoyed the peer dinner today, had an awesome experience. How was everyone elses?

Ah, I had the salmon. It was pretty decent, but I didn't realize they had sushi! I probably would have grabbed that if I had known.Hattori Hanzo wrote:I am always down for events with free ok~ish sushi I grabbed one of those kosher bagsmaudlinstreet wrote:It was good! I'm definitely down with a meet up and think it'd be a good way to meet a few more classmates! Post here if you're interested, and we'll try to set up some kind of night out soon.

Anybody else not get their loan refund yet? My SSOL account says that I have a credit, I've set up direct deposit, but haven't gotten it yet.

Re: Columbia 2013
Hey all, I'm a CLS 2L. I can only speak to what sections were like last year, but there weren't anything to the effect of section social events, except for perhaps Bobbit's Legal Methods parties. Once actual classes start, there aren't any distinctions between sections aside from the classes you take. Generally, your Legal Methods section will be the same people you have in all your classes first term, but that's not entirely true. I know of at least a few people who were in my Civ Pro class but weren't in my Contracts or Torts class. But they were in an odd group that straddled between sections. Generally, people will have two large classes with approximately the same group as their Legal Methods, and one small class with a subset of that larger group. Your Legal Practice Workshop will then be a subset of that smaller class group.Idiocrat wrote:Anyone else confused about "sections"? Then it all changes second term. Except for your (some of the?) LPW II, which is comprised of basically the same people as LPW I, but a bit different, since there were some changes once people joined different Moot Court teams.
Have fun!

Went and talked to financial aid office, apparently they hadn't gotten my MPN from the Feds. It took them about 2 minutes to go and request/print them out though.

Anyone got Morrison/Goldberg/Rapaczynski?
I was delighted to find out that 2 out of 3 professors are hostile towards laptops (/sarcasm). Otherwise, I'm really looking forward to starting "real" classes and getting some cooler weather.
Here I'll just post my schedule:

L6101, Section 5 Suzanne Goldberg
GRHL 101 TWR 10:40am-12:00pm

Ahh -- which two, and how do you know? I only have one of those (Rapa) and nothing on the syllabus says so. I just started using a laptop to take notes, and I like it!Sogui wrote: Anyone got Morrison/Goldberg/Rapaczynski?

Morrison/Goldberg. I had devised a whole system with OneNote and I'm really liking it so far, keeping everything about a class a few clicks away, notes that linked to my briefs, keeping the "black letter law" highlighted, tagged, and search-able.parker09 wrote:Ahh -- which two, and how do you know? I took handwritten notes for 4 year in UG, I'm not very organized and I have slow sloppy handwriting. I was really looking forward to using this system and I figured CLS would respect its student body enough to give them a choice. I guess the LS = HS analogy really isn't too far off.

Clarissa Long and Jody Kraus also have banned laptops.

Re: Columbia 2013
To clarify, Morrison has banned laptops. Goldberg requires that we take handwritten notes at least 5 times during September, not access the internet or any non-civpro document (she claims the TAs will be watching), and even then our access to laptops seems tenuous.

Why did they have to send out exam schedules so soon? I mean, I am happy to know when exams will be, but it definitely made me tense looking at it. ha
