I just submitted a standard application. Aside from my personal statement I don't recall submitting anything else. My application was submitted pretty late, it only went "complete" on March 15th. I was admitted on March 24th and am still waiting for my official acceptance package to arrive in the mail - the status checker informs me that there have been two recent mailings; one on march 30th and the other on march 31st (I'm from Canada so I guess it's delayed).

Anyway, thanks for your optimism!

Sure thing--good luck with everything!

Just got the scholarship email from MSU. They're offering a renewable scholarship worth 75% of tuition! I was expecting some money but wasn't expecting this much. Very excited and should have an answer of whether or not I'll attend by the end of this week.

Sent in my seat deposit earlier this afternoon!

Anyone from the NY Metro area looking to go here? I'm from Long Island and looking for people in the area!

So did you put a seat deposit down and they just sent you updated scholarship info? If so, I'm kicking myself because they offered me 25% plus 10K for 1L and I withdrew. Prob would've gone there with 75%. Hmmmm..
Nah, I haven't yet put down any deposits with them. They extended the deposit deadline for those who they told to wait until 4/6 to hear about scholarship offers.

Yup, I went to the ASD about 2 weeks ago and the scholarship offer was too goo to pass up, so I sent in my deposit like 2 days ago. Good question, I have no clue about anything, I dont want to live on campus so i have to go back up sometime to look at an apartment.

Although I don't really put much weight into the usnews rankings it's still fun to be able to say your school is ranked. Someone posted this long ago, in 2008 the rankings for the T3/T4 schools were leaked. Notice that there were a few schools currently in the top 100 that were nearly similarly ranked (ie. USF, Gonzaga, Buffalo). Thought you MSU hopefuls would enjoy this and look forward to next week's rankings release!
Mr. Matlock wrote:
Technically T3 starts, according to US News, at schools ranked 101 and below. They don't give specific ranking numbers to these schools other than the T3, T4 monikers. The numbered rank is kept hidden for some unknown reason, but was leaked in 2008:

Second Tier

* * *

99. Hofstra

100. (Tie) Mercer, Stetson, Syracuse, U. Buffalo, U.Louisville

Third Tier

105. (Tie) Creighton, U. Arkansas (Fayetteville), U. Maine

108. (Tie) Michigan State University, Quinnipiac U., U. Mississippi, U. Toledo

112. (Tie) Albany, U. Akron, U. Montana, U. San Francisco, U. St. Thomas (MN), Vermont

118. (Tie) Drake, Gonzaga, Howard, New York Law School, U. Idaho, U. Missouri-Kansas City, W. Virginia

congrats on your scholarship !!
i applied in november with 3.5/157 and received a different offer in mid december (more money the first year, but less over three) - i think after reading the posts, when it comes to MSU applying later and being able to avoid the april 1 seat deposit allows for more money... information that would have been helpful last fall, but it all works out :)

I'm feeling a little discouraged. I received my admissions package a couple days ago withe a note stating that they cannot offer me any scholarship money for 1L. This is frustrating since i have a 164 and a 3.0 and it seems like people with stats slightly less than mine have received quite a bit of assistance. I would really like to attend MSU but for almost 50,000 a year?!

MSU seems to value GPA a lot more than other schools. I have a 158/3.75 and received a full scholarship while my cousin who had a 163/3.4 got no where near that.

2.9X/165 here. Admitted without any scholarship sometime in February, and my first deposit deadline was on April 1st. I figured I just wasn't going to get any scholarship consideration so I withdrew the morning of April 1st. Now I come on here and see people getting scholarship offers past that date with their deposit deadline extended to the end of April -- what a bummer.

Now I'm in a huge bind because, Michigan State was one of my top choices assuming I got some scholarship money. The only acceptances I have are at T1s in the 30-40 range, but I don't want to pay sticker and definitely would've attended MSU with any decent scholarship (I too am interested in the joint program with UofO).

Dude you should have asked! Roboski was a huge help for me, if you asked the admission officers for help they said they cant increase scholarship amounts until June. However, if you bypassed them and went straight to the Dean of Financial Aid (Roboski), he was extremely helpful and he's the reason why I'm attending MSU.

I was admitted in the mail, no scholly offer with the mail. (2.8, 159) It's very disappointing because I actually really really liked Michigan State. I'm from Texas but I visited there and really enjoyed the school and the people but I don't know if I can pay sticker!! I know they offer scholly's to second year students but still. The only other school I'm considering is St. Mary's, they offered me a 8,000 scholly renewable but I have to stay top 10 percent. I'm not sure what to do

If you come to MSU, try to get into the section with Professor Johnson teaching you Contracts. It will be worth the tuition because he will bust your ass to make sure you know what the F you are doing as a lawyer.

I wouldn't count on a renewable 8k scholly with a top 10% requirement. View it as a one time 8k scholly because placing in the top 10% means that you needed to have busted your ass off and fought off others who are also fighting to keep their own scholarships. I'm not completely discrediting the worth of a one yr 8k scholarship, just viewing it in a slightly different perspective. That said, you should have a good shot at getting at least SOME money when the next scholarship committee review comes around. I have a 2.9/157 and got 75% tuition with only a 2.5gpa requirement for renewal. it seems that they offer scholarships after committee meetings in bulk, maybe your application is still waiting to be reviewed.

Did you receive a letter asking if you qualified for a scholarship at all? Some advice would be to write them a letter asking for consideration and that this may be enough to sway you to commit to attending.

good luck

For anyone familiar with East Lansing, can you please recommend some places to live that are close to campus and relatively cheap?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Yes! I'm looking for the same help. I've been to East Lansing once for about 18 hours.
