Re: DOJ Honors Program 2018-2019
I’m a finalist for one component, but was waiting on another component which was posted this morning. If my status has not changed (still says finalist for the other component), I should assume I am not a finalist for the one that updated recently, right?
It just seems weird because my references were getting checked for the second one up until yesterday. But who knows what the DOJ gods want

Could just mean that they realllllyyyyyy want you for the component you're a finalist for and they don't want you even thinking about taking another position?Anonymous User wrote:I’m a finalist for one component, but was waiting on another component which was posted this morning. Still haven't even had my references checked, though designated a finalist, so guessing I'm probably an alternate

Is a clerkship at OCIJ considered valuable or prestigious outside of immigration?

From what I have been told, yes. One of my mentors is a Judge and she did the EOIR clerkship and she then joined DOJ civil rights officer.Anonymous User wrote:Is a clerkship at OCIJ considered valuable or prestigious outside of immigration?

Got OCIJ offer today. References both checked two weeks ago. I interviewed first day so the advice that references checked before finalists are listed equals a first round offer seems to pan out. Got my fifth choice on my preference sheet.
Still waiting on office of policy for EOIR.
Also got Presidential Management Fellow offer today.

"Dear OCIJ Honors Program Candidate: EOIR OCIJ asked us to inform you that the upcoming holiday period will impact its reference check and offer process. Offers are starting to go out, but due to the volume of hiring, the process can take some time. OCIJ recognizes that many employers are hiring during this period. If you should receive an offer from another employer with a firm response deadline and wish to confirm your status with OCIJ before responding please email Attorney Advisor [redacted] or OCIJ Program Analyst [redacted]. Best regards, Deana Willis Assistant Director Office of Attorney Recruitment and Management "

Re: DOJ Honors Program 2018-2019
FWIW, when I interviewed I got the strong impression that former OCIJ clerks overwhelmingly went into immigration jobs. Not sure how much of that is want vs. need though. You could probably sell an OCIJ clerkship as evidence of being a good writer, but the area of law doesn’t really transfer to other fields and since the rules of evidence don’t apply you’re missing out on that big transferable skill. So I’m not saying it’s not valuable/prestigious, but both are in the eye of the beholder so it’s going to depend.Anonymous User wrote:Is a clerkship at OCIJ considered valuable or prestigious outside of immigration?
