What’s the rule on soft dings/radio silence sings? I’ve it’s been 3 weeks since the CB and 2 weeks since grades were sent, is it safe to assume the worst?

1L class is filled with UT students but there's a couple of spots (likely, given past years) for other schools. You could google "Harvard" and "Vinson & Elkins" to see.Anonymous User wrote:Where?Anonymous User wrote:V&E Houston and Dallas SAs are posted on their website.

That list is a mix of 1Ls and 2Ls. And it's broken down by school and not by office, so I would guess it means their firmwide class is closed (unless they're updating it as people accept offers).Anonymous User wrote:Does that definitely mean the summer class is full?Anonymous User wrote:1L class is filled with UT students but there's a couple of spots (likely, given past years) for other schools. Is it normal practice for firms to list their SA classes on their websites?

It would probably be wasteful time-wise to update their website when people accept..Anonymous User wrote:That list is a mix of 1Ls and 2Ls. Anecdotally, I know a 1L at my school that got an offer from V&E Dallas. He accepted on the spot and his name isn’t on their website yet. So I wouldn’t say they had finalized the class before they started putting names up.Anonymous User wrote:It would probably be wasteful time-wise to update their website when people accept..Anonymous User wrote:That list is a mix of 1Ls and 2Ls. If the list includes 2Ls then I know a 2L without their name on the list.Anonymous User wrote:Anecdotally, I know a 1L at my school that got an offer from V&E Dallas. I should have clarified above, my 1L friend who got an offer and accepted on the spot got the offer two days ago (Friday) at V&E Dallas. I don’t think they’re done.

Re: 2018 Texas 1L SA Thread
How much of a black mark for 2L OCI is it if you get no-offered after a Texas 1L SA. I'm looking at NALP and it looks like offer rates after 1L summer tend to be a lot lower (which might imply that not getting no-offered as a 1L isn't as big of a deal?).
For example, according to NALP, only 2 out of 8 1L 2015 summers at V&E Houston returned for 2016. Given that it's V&E, I'm guessing that most would've returned if they had the choice?
Also - it looks like only 4 out of 9 1L 2015 summers at Baker Botts Houston returned for 2016. I know that they require 1L summers to return for 2L if they want a permanent offer.

Re: 2018 Texas 1L SA Thread
Hard to read those NALP numbers anyway. I think the assumption that anyone with an SA at VE that got the offer to return may be overstated.
You may be seeing the HYS kids and others from T-14's who did very well 1L first semester that decide not to return (regardless of whether they got an offer to return). It seems to be a particularly 1L friendly market, so students with ties may come to TX to get a paying SA. Those students may not really want to return to Texas for 2L and beyond. So, they may go elsewhere when the world of firms is more open to them, especially to the extent they did very well 1L.

Re: 2018 Texas 1L SA Thread
That makes a lot of sense, thanks. It does seem unlikely, though, that a full 6 out of 8 1L SAs voluntarily decided not to return? I'm guessing that a non-insignificant % of those people still got no-offered (hard to tell b/c firms don't have to report 1L offer rates to NALP).
Assuming that no offers are pretty rare, how much do you think they hurt for 2L OCI if you do get no-offered for Texas specifically?

anyone have any idea on how to construct an e-mail declining an offer to a firm you are very interested in/want to keep the door open for 2L

Re: 2018 Texas 1L SA Thread
Sorry if this has already been posted. I've heard VE/BB/Sidley Houston have all made offers already. Not sure if they are done.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
