Hey all,
Welcome to Columbia EIP 2014! If you haven't received grades back yet, no worries. All mine are back so I'm starting to put a bid list together. Let's help each other throughout the process and go get ourselves a job. This is the thread to talk about grades, bid list, callbacks, interviews and so on. Here are some rules I liked from last year's thread:
Please Use Anonymous Handles
We all want to maintain some privacy during this process. That said, it is also nice to keep track of who is saying what. I’m going to recommend that everyone pick a handle to sign their anonymous posts with (you obviously don’t have to) so that we can keep track of one another.
Bidding
The basics of bidlist stuff should be straightforward even if you’re not Socrates: if you think other people are more likely to bid on a firm, you should bid it high. Firms that are less grade-selective or that have fewer interview spots are more competitive, so you should probably rank them higher. Don’t rank a firm high just because you want it, but if you really want a particular firm it might be good to rank it high for your peace of mind. Finally, you should probably avoid spreading your bids out between multiple markets unless you have strong ties to all of those markets. We’ve all seen the data: there are just more jobs in New York, so NY is a solid backup for folks who are trying to head to California, Chicago or DC.
Callbacks
Once we’re at least part way through the first rings of interviewing hell, people will get callbacks. In past years, people would post the firm name and the initials of the person who interviewed them when they received a callback so that people would know that callbacks had gone out.
Good luck.

Still waiting on two more grades, though I have my bidlist pretty set right now baring any crazy change from those final grades. Hopefully we'll see some movement today on lawnet!

I am waiting on two grades as well but I've done very little work on a bid list so far. Best of luck to everyone!

This is a thing already? Shit. Now it's real.
2 grades to go and all I know of my bid list is that at some point it will be a thing that exists.

Just Crim left for grades.
Has anyone actually spoken to OCS yet about EIP? It seems like most people used them last year to estimate what they needed to bid something, but this year they gave us the chart on where you had to bid each firm. If I go in, what sorts of questions should I be asking that they might be able to help with?

Re: Columbia EIP 2014
I had a similiar thought. I'm thinking I'll ask about the general selectivity of firms and how to balance between the two markets I'm targetting. But yeah, seems like everyone will have a pretty good sense of the cutoff bid position for the firms. It'll just come down to which firms happen to be more or less popular than last year to move the bidding around.Anonymous User wrote:Just Crim left for grades.

Thanks! I might bid a second market too, was thinking of going 20/10 for NY/Secondary but I definitely do want to ask about that.Anonymous User wrote:I had a similiar thought. I'm worried that the "last bid" PDF from last year won't mean much outside of NY, where the number of people bidding on each firm will be much smaller - say 10 versus 220. Think it's going to come down to what's popular like you said.

Can someone explain why the 2013 EIP results document is completely locked down? No printing, converting to excel, or text copying. I didn't realize we were guarding state secrets.

Checking in. Still waiting for Crim and Property. Hoping they don't fuck me out of Stone.
Is everyone that is considering a secondary market also bidding NY to play it safe?

1) I had hopes for Stone. Then I checked my schedule in January and saw I had Lynch.Anonymous User wrote:Checking in. Still waiting for Crim and Property. Hoping they don't fuck me out of Stone.

2) I'm doing that. Probably gonna split 12/9/9 in favor of NYC.

Does anyone know the deadline to get grades in? I have only received one, which is pretty infuriating 4 weeks and 1 day after my last final.

It's June 16th, but I don't think it's a hard deadline.Does anyone know the deadline to get grades in? I have only received one, which is pretty infuriating 4 weeks and 1 day after my last final.

I heard June 16 was a deadline, can't remember where though. I had Shaw last semester though, so deadlines mean nothing to me.Anonymous User wrote:Does anyone know the deadline to get grades in? I have only received one, which is pretty infuriating 4 weeks and 1 day after my last final.

Anyone else shooting for the Bay Area? Would love to discuss with someone else so I'm not totally lost/afloat/drowning...

Lynch's final was a doozy. Provided that I don't get completely destroyed by him, I will enjoy reading his comments on how shitty our exam responses were later this summer. (e.g. "I was so disappointed when...")Anonymous User wrote:

I thought my crim (Harcourt) was late but apparently not. Came out yesterday. Metzger and Liebman put them up pretty early too. Hopefully you will have them all by Sunday.Anonymous User wrote:Does anyone know the deadline to get grades in? Grades are due June 15th. However, the punishment for turning them in whenever you care to is that they put your name on a bad boy list circulated to faculty. Basically the deadline is GFY.Anonymous User wrote:Does anyone know the deadline to get grades in? I have only received one, which is pretty infuriating 4 weeks and 1 day after my last final.

Checking in as well. Had high hopes for remaining grades today..very disappointed. Watching spain get absolutely crushed from the office provides some small relief.

I tried to do this earlier. Unless you have a program that breaks PDF passwords, you can't take any information off the outcomes document w/o manually copying it.Anonymous User wrote:has anyone formatted the EIP outcomes report and the offers by honors report into excel/ does anyone know how to without having to go all text to columns on my ass?

Also waiting for 3. It's incredibly frustrating being told by CSO all we need to be doing or EIP and I have no idea what my GPA will be. Does anyone know what median is?

It's funny because I almost picked Tyrion Lannister as my name before settling on Bruce Wayne lolAnonymous User wrote:Checking in as well. Had high hopes for remaining grades today..very disappointed. Watching spain get absolutely crushed from the office provides some small relief.
