Cornell OCI 2011

Post by Anonymous User » Fri Jul 15, 2011 11:20 pm

We get the schedules on Monday so I thought we could get a thread going. Is everyone pissed off about the misleading email this morning?

I swear you're me.

12 in NYC, most of my top picks, but 2-3 I wish I'd gotten.

Disappointed in the low number.

12 is a low number? What's the percentage at Cornell for lotto/pre-select?

I'm almost positive that UVA is the only t14 that uses any sort of pre-select.

You might be able to pick a few up if the firms still have interview slots open (we can pick them up, starting Wednesday, if we're quick about it). Also, the sign-ups for the on-campus interviews aren't until August 1, so you can probably get a few there.

EDIT: meant to add -- if you're concerned about this, email the Career Services Office. I'm sure they'll let you know the best plan.

Didn't get my 2nd pick another.

Still, very happy with the number and the selections.

Yeah, I had Weil as #1 and didn't get it either.

They must have been slammed with people or something.

FWIW, I had Weil at #1 and *did* get an interview. Sincerely sorry to hear for those who didn't.

16 interviews. All my top picks except day three where I got my #8 and struck out on getting Weil despite ranking it #1 (just like everyone else, it seems).

Ya my guess is that since Weil was in the "moderate" group yet is a V10 firm a lot of people who likely don't have the grades for the firm still bid. This was probably exacerbated by our new ridiculous curve.

prior to this year median was a 3.35. now, median is still a "3.35", but professors have the discretion to grade anywhere between a 3.25 and a 3.5.
Cornell only releases top 10% cutoffs, but in the past few years, the 2 semester cutoff for top 10% has ranged from a 3.68-3.73. This year it is a 3.81.

Still, Cornell sent out OCI information stating that firms were "very grade selective" in the past is they hired "those with a 3.65 or above". Unfortunately, that number means nothing because we have no idea how it relates to our grades this year. I am sure some students used these numbers and overreached with their bids.
