The December 1st date is a NALP rule. Non-NALP firms and other legal employers are not required to follow it (though some do.) If your law school does not explicitly forbid you from applying to these jobs earlier than December 1st, then it would likely to be to one advantage to do so.vanwinkle wrote: With that said, even after November 1 you're still not allowed to speak to employers! You can after that date start talking to your career services counselors, and they will start giving you information on how to apply for jobs, but employers are still forbidden from contacting you until December 1. This also means you should not try to contact them about summer employment until then, either.

Thanks for the awesome information! This could be a dumb question, but...
Golden Rule: Do not apply/interview for a Judge if you're not sure, because turning down a Judge is a big no-no.
Does this mean that people generally only apply to or interview for one Judge? On the one hand, that sounds risky - putting all of your eggs in one basket - but on the other hand, interviewing for multiple would lead you to do the dreaded Judge!Rejection.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you can apply to all the judges you want. But if one of them offers you a job, you have to accept it and immediately withdraw all other applications you have out there.mildlyironic wrote:Thanks for the awesome information! This could be a dumb question, but...

Re: The 1L Job Hunt: A Guide For 0Ls
How do you handle applying to firms with multiple offices but only one recruitment contact?
For instance, a firm has offices in Jacksonville, Tampa, Orlando, and Miami. I would be interested in working in all of these, preferenced in that order, but they all list the recruitment contact of the Miami office. Would I just apply to one office, or could I apply to all of them?

Re: The 1L Job Hunt: A Guide For 0Ls
I am not convinced this judge rule really applies for 1L internships. The judges I interviewed with ALL said to take a few days to think about it and let them know what I decided by X date. One even said he'll pick one person to interview, then if they say no, move on to the next, and that he understood that I might prefer to be in a bigger city. They all knew I was interviewing with/had offers from other judges, and none seemed to bat an eye over it.

tag--kinda freaky I'm gonna have to actually start doing this in a couple of months. Didn't all of us pick law school so we could just slack off for three more years?
