So are there really no books for Contracts, or, has the professor just not updated their booklist yet?

Our contracts class had a copied packet that came out a few days before. Not sure if you will have that, but it might explain it.

Yea, if you have George she has her own class pack. And she is awesome.Jojo wrote:Our contracts class had a copied packet that came out a few days before. Not sure if you will have that, but it might explain it.

Okay, so forgive me if this makes me sound like a re-tard (think the character Alan discussing Rain Man in the movie "Hangover," lol) so do we have to purchase that class pack, or is it free? And, if it does cost, how much did it run you last year?hov! wrote:Yea, if you have George she has her own class pack. Indeed, both sections have George this year. What are current students' opinions on Suzanna Sherry, Nita Farahany, and Sharfstein? (I sat in on one of Sharfstein's classes during ASW and was soooo annoyed by his constant stuttering and "um, uh, um, uh's." Other than that, he seemed like a pretty nice guy...I just don't know how much I'll be able to focus during his class if I'm in section B. And what makes George so awesome? (I'll take your word for it, but I love details. lol).

You have to buy it – probably at around 45 dollars. There are also some recommended texts that are good if you are confused, but George is so awesome, it is hard to be confused in that class. Her awesomeness includes:
1)calling on you in rows, so you know when you are up - and when she does call on you, she helps you if you are stuck instead of just staring at you while you flounder (ahem, Civ Pro profs, ahem);
2) Only using the case text and then discussing them – no unnecessary notes to read (this actually might change, as the book is being written and she might have added notes)
3) using powerpoints and posting them online so that you can review after class for things you missed.
4) explaining really well by diagramming on the board and using modern funny examples
5) having in class practice exams which she then goes over
6) having class competitions for which there are prizes (alcohol and candy )
7) bringing us donuts about 3 times a semester
She was quite possibly the best prof I had last year - although Maroney was also very good and if crim law wasn't such a complicated bitch of a subject, she may have gotten that title (she used many of the same tactics as george - powerpoint, prizes, funny examples).
edit: didn't have any of the other three profs you mentioned, so not commenting.

Has anyone found books for less than the bookstore?
I checked amazon and lawbooks for less and they either didn't have them any cheaper or didn't have the right edition.
Advice before I pay Vandy $800?
Too late: did it. It was more like 500.

Is M.B. coming back?rezipsa wrote:--LinkRemoved--tudo ben wrote:Hey, can anyone give a heads up on how to know what books to buy, for online buying purposes? From the Facebook thread, I've learned that the books for contracts and torts may be the same for each section, or may not be, and for everything else you need to know what section you're in first. So I guess that means bookstore? Any help would be great. Sorry if this has already been covered.

I know, right? My internet connection is shoddy at home and it's against work policy to use IM. Right now I'm "working" on my last judicial bench memo. My last day of work is next Friday so I'll probably be back in Nashville the following Saturday or Sunday.... I kinda miss Nashville. Good work on the the law school transparency site. How are things going for you? Are you living in the same place this year?

Re: Vanderbilt 2012
Ah, nice. I'm still going on my second job with an entertainment lawyer. Pretty interesting work. I think I'll be doing this throughout the fall, too. That's still TBD.
Nashville has been alright this summer. Kinda boring with so few people hanging around, but still a pretty good time. I'm actually in NC right now trying to land some interviews by cold-calling and following up with emails when I reach the voicemail. Working well - I recommend it while home. It's just depressing that firms either interview me or don't have a summer class. Considering I've only had a few interviews...that's a lot of firms without summer classes that usually have them. Granted, Charlotte is probably the worst legal market in the country, but still...oof.
I'm living in the Grove again, but in a 3BR townhouse in the Whitworth rather than the 2BR in the Richland. Living with two lovely ladies from Section A.
