Bay Ridge! The least cool or sexy part of Brooklyn. But its safe, cheap, and right by the water.

It looks like St. John's is going to be my choice, provided I don't get a great offer from either Brooklyn or Cardozo.

I was going to go, but decided not to wake up so early on a Saturday. There's going to be two more ASD's in May I think.

So for all of us actually attending, I'd like to try and get a convo going...
Is there anything you are excited about? Dreading? Thoughts about what class will be like, or anything you are doing to prep?
Anyone?

Even if you're decided already I would recommend sitting in on a class. I sat in on a Criminal Law class and found it to be very informative. I got a good idea of what I'm walking into in August, and what will be expected of me in class. I'm also looking forward to the clinical programs during 2L and 3L.
The only thing I am really dreading is the commute and finding somewhere to live if I decide to move out of my current apartment.

Hey Durs,
When I visited the campus I actually sat in on two classes - a Property class, and one upper level course about ny statutes on sentencing. Both were incredibly interesting. I too am dreading the commute. No matter which way I go - the belt or 278 - it'll stink!

The commute from where I am not is not that bad. It took about 20 mins when I went to sit in on the class. I left at 8am and was on campus by 8:30 so the commute isn't bad, but the kids upstairs are another story.

My landlord has young children who run around and scream all day. I don't think I'd be able to get any studying done here, so even though it is in a good location, I'm probably going to move before school starts.

That could be a serious problem...
Personally, I plan to get as much studying done in the library as possible though. I feel like there are too many distractions at home.

Do any of you guys know any St. John's graduates? What law do they practice? Are they satisfied with their school choice?
I know one St. John's grad: an older Jewish criminal defense lawyer. He's very succesful, even though you won't find his name on the news too often.

I know one girl who graduated last year and now practices corporate law in a mid-size firm in Manhattan. I don't know where she stood in her class in terms of GPA though...

On LSN, only one person has clicked 'attending' for St. John's. Given that the deposit deadline was April 1 for most, does this concern anyone here, or does anyone have any reasons why this might be?

People often put the first seat deposit in at multiple schools if the deposits aren't binding. especially if they are still waiting to hear from higher ranked schools.jewtangclan03 wrote:On LSN, only one person has clicked 'attending' for St. John's. I would also assume that some people just don't update their LSN.

I submitted my deposit a few days ago also. It's not my first choice though and I'm on the waiting list at BLS and AU and asking to be reconsidered for the part time programs at Fordham and GWU.
I would suspect that other people are in the same boat. Otherwise, at this point I'm going to StJ

What did you guys think of the ASD on Thursday? I was very impressed with the school, the only annoying thing was the multitude of undergrads in the cafeteria.

Re: St. John's Class of 2012
The tour guide told us that the food at the law school cafeteria is the best on campus, and that often undergrads will go there to eat dinner. I was in the building twice during the day and the cafeteria wasn't busy either time, so I'm guessing it is just a dinner thing.Dark Prince wrote:What did you guys think of the ASD on Thursday?
