Nope, no nudey bars in the immediate IC area. In fact, the city council just passed an ordinance banning any new bars from opening downtown within 500 ft of an existing bar.

Stupid law, if you spread the bars farther apart, drunk kids will drive instead of walk.scott82 wrote:Nope, no nudey bars in the immediate IC area. In fact, the city council just passed an ordinance banning any new bars from opening downtown within 500 ft of an existing bar.

Re: Iowa 2012
You'll see soon enough that Iowa City is set up to siphon as much money as possible out of the students. The City doesn't care if people drive drunk, in fact it probably wants them to because every person pulled over is more revenue for the City. The parking laws around downtown are ridiculous. You leave your car parked down there because you got too drunk and the best you can hope for is a ticket, worst case is a tow. I mean, the freaking town is in the middle of Iowa, yet they treat the place like its midtown Manhattan with respect to parking and crap.mikeytwoshoes wrote:Stupid law, if you spread the bars farther apart, drunk kids will drive instead of walk.scott82 wrote:Nope, no nudey bars in the immediate IC area. Stop with the lawyer talk - we haven't even started class yet for chrissake. I'm still never having their food again. And it'll be awhile before I have any eggs, either.mikeytwoshoes wrote:Really, Brick? Perkins is good when you're drunk and it's 3 am and you get the munchies. HEY, HOW DARE YOU!! I love Perkins and I have their eggs about two or three times a month with no problems.

Wait. Using the word "evidence" in a sentence immediately equates to "lawyer talk"? Overzealous much?crystalhawkeye wrote:Stop with the lawyer talk - we haven't even started class yet for chrissake. No. Saying "my evidence was flawed" is enough, though.

Re: Iowa 2012
I gotta side with Brick, here. For all we know, you could have eaten some undercooked ribs 3 hours before you ate Perkins. Or perhaps you got some cross contamination from lettuce. We just don't know enough to conclude that Perkins' eggs are tainted. And you'll have their food again. You'll come out of bar night at 1:45 in the morning and say to a crony, "I sure could go for a skillet" and then you'll head over to Village Inn, but it will either be closed or too crowded, and then your crony will say, "We could always go to Perkins." And there it is, you'll think, "Hmmm, I could either wait for up to 2 hours for Gumby's to come or I could go to Perkins and get some hash and a large glass of chocolate milk right now" and the next thing you know, you'll be in the back of a cab with two coeds you don't know on the Coralville Strip on your way to Perkins. You'll be back. Trust me, I've seen it a thousand times.crystalhawkeye wrote:No. Saying "my evidence was flawed" is enough, though.

There are already like 70000 bars along the ped mall as it is, I think it'll be okay.mikeytwoshoes wrote:Stupid law, if you spread the bars farther apart, drunk kids will drive instead of walk.scott82 wrote:Nope, no nudey bars in the immediate IC area. Does anyone know if our financial aid will get refunded when Orientation starts or when actual classes start?

Re: Iowa 2012
I think I remember reading that it was the beginning of class. However, we have that introduction to law and legal reasoning class. Considering that we’ll pay for that credit, it seems possible that aid might be disbursed then.isustudent wrote:Does anyone know if our financial aid will get refunded when Orientation starts or when actual classes start?
At my UG, they waited two weeks before checking everyone’s registration. If you didn’t register for the right amount of credits, they reduced your aid. I think they’ll do something like this. There might be some immediate academic attrition so it would be silly to disburse at the beginning of orientation or classes.

The aid is automatically used to pay for tuition and the like. The rest will be refunded to us through whichever bank account you sign up online through ISIS. The refund amount we'll get on the 25th.

Oh, yeah, you should clear that up. I was assuming it was the one on highway 6. I forgot there was one downtown now too.crystalhawkeye wrote:You do mean the one on the Ped Mall, right Mike?

<--- Changed to self-tar so you all don't have to walk around asking people "Are you here for the TLS meetup?". If you're not comfortable with selftars, at least post a physical description or something, so I don't have to either.

Creepy... You need to smile. You look like someone who likes young children with that expression.scott82 wrote:<--- Changed to self-tar so you all don't have to walk around asking people "Are you here for the TLS meetup?". Ah. Hmmm... Well, I have been told I am rather stoic-looking most of the time. But I wasn't aware such a look was associated with aspiring pederasts.

Holy crap, guys! I don't know if anyone else likes them, but Wilco will be playing at U of I! Color me excited!
Also, anybody else going to the Dungen show at the Picador on Monday? Because I looked at my life and thought, "You know--not enough Swedes."
