Effect of filing taxes as a dependent?

Post by bkr904 » Sun Feb 07, 2010 10:03 pm

If my dad claims me as a dependent on his tax return for 2009 (I am still filing the FAFSA as independent), is there a difference in the chances of getting or amount of need-based aid that I will be able to get from schools? Does me filing my taxes as an independent increase the chances of getting financial aid?

Shouldn't effect it at all. Most (if not all) law schools consider your parents income even though you are independent for federal aid purposes.

You will get less back yourself on your return though...
