Re: Duke ($$) or NYU ($)
BL/FC is only a rough proxy for quality of outcomes. Duke has better BL/FC than Harvard, for example, but no one thinks that Duke outperforms Harvard in job placement.grades?? wrote:For sure duke. Better big law + fed clerk numbers plus significantly cheaper than nyu.
The reason that Duke has higher BL/FC than NYU is because NYU has traditionally had a disproportionate number of students go into the PI realm.
Having said that, OP, I would personally not advise attending either school at this price. It is too much debt. Instead, I would head back to the negotiating table and leverage your other T13 offers.

The answer is almost certainly getting a bigger scholarship than this at, say, Cornell. For generic biglaw goals, I don't see any reason to get into this much debt.

I think that these posters are ready to argue that Duke is hands-down better than Harvard because its BL/FC is better.ernie wrote:BL/FC is only a rough proxy for quality of outcomes. Duke is certainly not a "better" school than NYU simply because its BL+FC number is higher, but it's also not worse. Since I'm guessing the total difference in COA will end up being at least $50,000, and the schools have roughly the same opportunities, I'd go with Duke.

This is horseshit, but the OP should still go to Duke (or better yet, a cheaper T13 option like Cornell), because it's the cheaper option and doesn't make an appreciable difference for their goals.Bach-City wrote:I'd say Duke. NYU's membership in the CCN is basically honorary at this point. Better BigLaw numbers, and COL is much lower in addition to the bigger scholarship. Real difference in money is much larger between the two schools.

Lol, I remember when TSLers started raving about Penn's biglaw numbers but now it seems to be Duke.

Did you apply to any lower t-14? Seems like you could get a pretty hefty scholarship from schools like Cornell with those numbers.

Why is this a trend this year?chargers21 wrote:OP already turned down Cornell with 105k iircOhiobumpkin wrote:Did you apply to any lower t-14? Seems like you could get a pretty hefty scholarship from schools like Cornell with those numbers.

This is crazy. Duke and Cornell are peer schools. Cornell with $105k is far and away a better outcome than Duke with $60k.
OP, did you withdraw from Cornell, or just rule it out? If you ruled it out, rule it back in. If you withdrew, try to undo that. Worst they can say is no.

people turned down Cornell because it's ranked 13 and not 10
