Villanova or Temple for Philly Market?
Hey guys,
So the cost of attending Villanova and Temple will be about the same for me and I am wondering which school is better for the Philly market? I visited both schools today and definitely liked Villanova a lot more. The campus was beautiful. The surrounding area for Temple was hard to ignore. Is Temple that much better of a school that it would be worth attending over Villanova? Is Villanova a law school worth attending if my goals are to work in Philly or NJ after grad?
Thanks!!

Temple is cheaper and Villanova's surrounding area is safer. They both have similar employment numbers, for the Philly market. Temple has more of an edge in the public sector. Hence the Trial Advocacy Program. While Villanova has a bigger chance at big law, if in the top 5%-10%. Pick your poison if not in the top 25% of 1L, and graduating class in either school.

I'm guessing that your goals haven't changed significantly since your original thread three weeks ago.
Since you didn't even bother providing COA info or broad career goals this time, I assume that you think that will result in different advice. It won't. But unless you've radically changed in the last three weeks, you're probably going to ignore all that advice and seek validation for the godawful decision to attend law school next year, regardless of whether it helps you meet your goals. So have at it. Maybe we can squeeze another five pages out in this round.

In all fairness, if ferris doesn't get involved on this one, it might only get to 2-3 pages.cavalier1138 wrote:I'm guessing that your goals haven't changed significantly since your original thread three weeks ago.

Without more info, neither school is a good choice.

I don't understand what is going on here. How did we get to Villanova/Temple from Brooklyn/St. John's?UVA2B wrote:In all fairness, if ferris doesn't get involved on this one, it might only get to 2-3 pages.cavalier1138 wrote:I'm guessing that your goals haven't changed significantly since your original thread three weeks ago.

What are your goals
What is the total COA for each school
What are your stats
How many times have you taken the lsat

I understand OP. Within the last 3 weeks, you had a life epiphany wherein an angel helped you realize that instead of spending an obscene amount of money and time to wind up with a measly chance at legal work in New York, what you ACTUALLY want is to spend an obscene amount of time and money to have a measly chance at legal work in Philadelphia. This makes sense.
If you're a troll, 4/10.
If you're not a troll, why the heck are you posting? Do you actually want advice? The advice you know you will get (because it's correct) is to not go to law school this year. Retake the LSAT, reapply next year, then go to a good school, not a Tier 2 regional school. You should not throw your life savings at a degree from a school that will not get you equivalent value in job prospects.

This is wrong. Though basically equal (both ~15%), Temple has the edge when you add in fed clerks (who likely have Biglaw options).URMSenator52 wrote:Temple is cheaper and Villanova's surrounding area is safer. Temple vs Villanova for Philly/PA/NJ
Need some clarification. In my mind, they're too similar to hate where I am living for 3 years. They're the same price. Leaning towards Nova because I love the area. Help!

Cost - around 30k per year each. No loans.
Goals: Pretty flexible. Reach would be biglaw but totally fine working in smaller firms.

Yes, I changed because I hadn't heard back from these schools yet. I'd rather attend these options than Brooklyn and St. Johns... Oh and no stipulations on my scholarship at Villanova. They will also be cheaper to attend (a lot cheaper) than the NY schools I previously posted about.

...I merged this with your thread already asking about Villanova and Temple, not your original thread asking about NY schools.

Re: Villanova or Temple for Philly Market?
90k+ of debt (likely 6 figures) is not defensible for either school

Ok, so just to clarify:Keekee1231 wrote:Cost - around 30k per year each. No loans.

Your plan is no longer to be top of your class after 1L and drop out to take over your father's business if that doesn't happen? Or is that sill the plan?
