Good get! Thanks that was very interesting. Never knew Harvard was once #5 and that Penn has been #6 or #7 for 9 out of the last 10 years. There were a few other noteworthy stats too. . . thx.

I could have sworn that Yale wasn't #1 the first year.

Just realized that in 1987, the top 14 was different, as in Cornell & NW were absent from the T-14 (if I am reading this right.... if I am, wonder who dropped out).

They changed the formula between y1 and y2. Michigan didn't get worse all of a sudden.

This is what I've heard. If you look lots of schools change drastically -- Harvard goes from 2 to 5, Chicago from 6 to 2, etc. Michigan is just the most obvious since 1987 is its brief moment in the glory of HYS HYM

Those jumps were from '87 to '90 . . . no idea what happened between '88-'89.

As far as I can tell there were no rankings between 87 and 90.

I find it puzzling that there were no ’88-’89 rankings, but it is possible, I suppose. Neither Google or Bing has a record on ’88-’89. Hmmmm….

They just may not have intended the rankings to be annual from the start - USNWR ranks other grad programs, but it's not annual - more like every 5 years.
