UVA vs NU
Out of curiosity, want to see how people compare these two schools, and how a poll would turn out. Although I lean strongly in one direction, I'm still trying to keep an open mind going into the ASW's, and am trying to research how the two schools stack up against each other. From my perspective it seems like a completely personal preference decision based on location, style of city, and feel from the student body. I can’t imagine the job opportunities are that much different coming out of either one, aside from NU obviously placing stronger in Chicago, and UVA maybe in DC?

Re: UVA vs NU
This is a tough choice.
I'd guess NU is better for Chicago and the Midwest, UVA better for DC and the South, and they're probably a wash in NYC. (Maybe UVA has a slight edge for NYC BigLaw?)
I would pick NU just because Chicago is an awesome city and NU has a great location, and I've been out of undergrad for a few years so the vibe is more appealing.

Two very different schools. Big city/small town, ~250 students/350 students, old people/babies, fucking cold/slightly less cold.
NU will place a lot better in Chicago, UVA a lot better in DC, and UVA probably has an bit better in NYC.
Pick the market/school culture you like better.

Yeah, I think personal preference/goals would play a big role in this decision.
If I had to pick -- being a relatively clueless 0L -- I'd say Virginia overall. But they're both great...

(Normally I'd make cracks about how fucking cold it is at NU, but after 60 goddamn inches of snow and counting here, I give up.)

Have you talked to an 18-21 y/o girl recently? What on earth would make you want to spend more time with one than you have to?kittenmittons wrote:OP, how do you feel about softball and slaying hot UGs?aznflyingpanda wrote:NU has a bunch of old splitter virgin engineers

I wouldn't mind some softball, but I think my wife would be pretty opposed to any hot UG slaying. Honestly post-marriage, as they are no longer useful for sexual gratification, UGs just annoy the shit out of me.kittenmittons wrote:OP, how do you feel about softball and slaying hot UGs?aznflyingpanda wrote:NU has a bunch of old splitter virgin engineers
Plus I'm fairly interested in settling in Chicago, or New York City secondarily, so it would seem that NU would be the better choice for me career choice wise. I guess I was just making sure that UVA didn't have some significant advantage I was unaware of, because NU seems to have a student body I think I would fit in with much better.

Re: UVA vs NU
NU is in a better location and has better weather (cold in winter > southern heat & humidity in spring + apparently as much as snow as chicago this year in winter), but the older student body is somewhat daunting for straight of ugrads, which is why UVA wins out para mi.

Very well said, Ray. This will really come down to being a personal decision and possibly money if you can set the two schools against one another.rayiner wrote:Two very different schools. Big city/small town, ~250 students/350 students, old people/babies, fucking cold/slightly less cold.

Re: UVA vs NU
Sounds like NU FTW. I believe a slightly higher percentage of the UVA class does clerkships, but I can't see that small advantage being anywhere near enough to offset the pros NU provides in your situation.Drew2010 wrote: Plus I'm fairly interested in settling in Chicago, or New York City secondarily, so it would seem that NU would be the better choice for me career choice wise.
