Mediocre gpa (3.74), solid lsat (178), potentially decent softs

Hey y'all,

Hoping to get some advice about schools and such. I'm a domestic male, non URM. Went to a liberal arts college (one of the top ranked ones) where I majored in Math. Ended up with a 3.74 GPA, which I regret, but it is what it is. Anyway, did well on LSAT (178) and also decent on the GRE (170 quant, 166 verbal, 5.0 writing) for what that's worth.

I have seen others with similar numbers on this site but the main reason I'm writing here is because I haven't seen someone with the same softs as me. My biggest one is being a Peace Corps Volunteer (math/science teacher). I also have a couple math publications (from an REU I did) and worked for a year at a data analyst for the global health department of a university. I have a very poor sense of how useful these softs are, hence the title of this post.

Was hoping to know what range of schools I have a shot at. I am guessing (but, of course, please let me know if I'm wrong) that T3 is a no-go with my GPA, but not sure where on the list I should seriously be considering.

Thanks!

You're iffy at Y/S, but you definitely have a chance at Harvard. Of course, you're likely to get significant scholarship offers at CCN on down, so unless Harvard admitted you with the maximum aid package, you shouldn't get too fixated on the imagined door-opening offered for prestige.

You should apply to all the T13 schools. Don't regret majoring in math and getting a 3.74. You'll get big money at CCN all the way down to the bottom of the T13. For the most part, the exit options from all of these schools are identical outside of some very limited set of "unicorn" opportunities. At my generic V50, I have people from Harvard, NYU, Penn, Cornell, Columbia, Northwestern, and Georgetown in my class (among others). I'd honestly just go to whatever T13 hands you the biggest wad of money (within reason, obviously take $135k from Columbia over $135k from Cornell). Wherever you end up in that range, you'll have an abundance of biglaw jobs available to you.
