158/4.0 Chances?

Post by asapheebs » Sat Nov 03, 2018 5:16 pm

Hi all,

I'm debating ED at schools like Northwestern, WashU and UChicago (I know...). I want to know my chances before I risk it all. I have heavy softs from a state school (I'm currently a senior graduating a year early) and am a South Asian female. I was my high school valedictorian and involved heavily in volunteering and government in my undergrad as a business major.

You should retake. You won't receive a URM bump - URMs for law school admissions purposes are African-Americans, Mexican-Americans, Puerto Ricans, and Native Americans. You won't receive a STEM bump - you'd need a "hard science", engineering, or math major for that. And - to be direct - your "softs" seem largely in line with those of the vast majority of T13/T20 law school applicants. A LSAT in the 150s is way too low, esp. for someone with a 4.0 GPA.

Delay a cycle if needed. Don't apply to law school with anything less than a 165.

On LSN you see there was one person with your numbers who got off the waitlist to be accepted to Penn and to Michigan: http://mylsn.info/s8pd70/ That person likely lucked out and did a great job convincing the schools they would attend. What have you done so far to study for the LSAT? Study for 6-9 months and then retake.

Expanding the numbers a bit, it looks as if you have a chance at WUSTL: http://mylsn.info/becgi3/ If you apply early you have a shot at UVA and good chance at Georgetown: http://mylsn.info/ihijpv/ I'd still retake.
