3.8/ 173 Scholarship Chances

Post by leonardkatz » Fri Oct 19, 2018 10:42 pm

I graduated from Upenn with a 3.8 (lsac calculated gpa) and scored a 173 on the lsat. I have a few volunteer experiences, but no major work experience. I really don't want to shell out money for school. Which schools should I apply where there is a likelihood of a 120K+ scholarship, and preferably where I have a decent shot at big-law? Thanks.

MyLSN is your friend.

You will likely receive a minor boost for being at Penn, but may be countered by your weak softs. Overall, assuming you're not a URM, I'd expect you to perform in line with those numbers.

Speaking generally, the T13 place the best in BigLaw, while the T20 also have good (though not quite as strong) placement. Based on the data, you're unlikely to receive more $ at a T20 than a T13. In your shoes, I'd blanket the T13 (minus Yale and Stanford, which you're unlikely to get into, and possibly minus Harvard, which doesn't award merit aid).

I had similar stats to yours last year and Penn and Michigan were both very generous with me. Both are great schools that provide a path to BigLaw. As said above though, blanketing T13 maximizes your chances of getting a big scholarship at a school that can get you in the door at a big firm
