MIT grad - 4.2 GPA, graduated in 2014

Post by DetroitGuest » Wed Jul 18, 2018 4:01 pm

Hi everyone -

I'm thinking of applying to grad school in the next year or two. Haven't taken the LSAT yet so I'm not sure what score I'd get but I was always pretty good at standardized tests, so I'm hoping that helps.

I went to MIT for undergrad, got a degree in engineering, and graduated with a 4.2 GPA (out of 5.0).

My question is: what are my chances to get into a T14 with that GPA, given that it was at a top university and I have 4 years of work experience in addition?

1) Nobody can tell you this without an LSAT.

2) Your GPA is probably not actually 4.2 for law school admissions purposes. Your LSAC GPA is what matters, and it is not out of 5.0.

A 4.2 at MIT is equivalent to a 3.2 under LSAC I believe, which is not a good GPA for T14. The MIT name isn't gonna overcome that alone that so you need a very high LSAT score like a 170+ but even then expect to pay sticker or near sticker.
