171 LSAT, 3.98 GPA
I also have a phd in philosophy. Any thoughts on if the phd helps the application (and, if so, in what way)? I imagine it would give me somewhat of an advantage at schools that have strengths in philosophy of law and jurisprudence, like Chicago and Yale. Comments are much appreciated!
Especially interest in T14 schools or schools where funding would be likely.

You're out at HYS (probably). Chicago is very likely. Good odds at Columbia, but less than Chicago. Good money from CCN down. Probably $100-120K+ at MVP.
That GPA will take you far, but just 2-3 more points puts you in the big money territory and gives you a good shot at HYS.

As a point of contrast, with nearly identical stats I was in at H and S (didn't apply to Y), with half tuition scholarship at Chicago and acceptances to the rest of the T13. Can't argue that you'd have a much higher chance of full or big scholarships, and a more secure chance of acceptances, with a higher LSAT though.

Thank you both for the responses! These are helpful. Why do you say Chicago is less likely than Columbia?

As far as T6 goes, my prediction is in everywhere except for Y.

Chicago is more likely than Columbia because they value high GPAs more than high LSATs. Columbia values high LSATs more than high GPAs. At Chicago you are above both medians. At Columbia, your LSAT is at median and your GPA is above median.philonomos wrote:Thank you both for the responses! These are helpful. Why do you say Chicago is less likely than Columbia?
