LSAT 175, gpa 2.75 Applying this year?

Post by friz90 » Wed Dec 27, 2017 1:30 pm

I took the LSAT and my score was 175. My gpa is 2.75. Unfortunately, my application for law school isn't ready yet, by the time I get it ready, it will be April or May.

Only one of the schools, Loyola chicago, has an application deadline open at that time.

Is it better for me to wait a few months and apply in the next admissions cycle? I could submit my application early is September rather then submitting them so late. Is there an advantage in submitting an application early? Could I get more scholarship money by applying early?

1. Why are you applying to Loyola with that LSAT?
2. Why is it going to take you 4-5 months to get your application ready?

The answer to all of your questions is yes. If you can't apply until then, sit out this year and apply next cycle.

Please wait until next cycle and do not rush this process by applying too late to one school (that isn't even a solid option unless it is free). Get your apps in as soon as you can next cycle, apply broadly to maximize your chances at acceptances and $$ as a super splitter, and give yourself the best options possible.

This is a huge career choice and should definitely not be rushed or done haphazardly, as you seem to already know. Good luck!

^ This.
Unless you're waiting on LOR writers who say they absolutely cannot write any time soon, I feel like you should be able to get your app together WAY before April/May... As the other posters have said, Loyola with that LSAT is a waste and you're better off not applying this cycle if you can't apply earlier than you expect.

Fellow splitter here--I also have a sub-3.0 GPA, although a bit higher than yours, but your LSAT is much better than mine. I highly recommend you read this before you move any further in the application process: http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... p?t=162680 The table in that post is no longer wholly accurate, but the general advice about planning your cycle definitely holds true.

Congrats on that LSAT score, that is truly an achievement. I would strongly suggest you wait to apply until next year unless you can put together truly strong applications in the next 10 days basically. If you're geographically flexible, there is no reason you should have to think about a school like Loyola. Assuming you're not K-JD Northwestern is a distinct possibility for you, as is WashU with significant $$$. Good luck!

Apply next cycle.
Going all in on Loyola is nuts.

April/ May is the time where you finalize seat deposits and start making moving plans/ arrangements , not the time to submit applications for that cycle.

The reason I would apply to Loyola is because I live it Chicago.

Ok. There are literally five other law schools in the city alone. So again, why are you applying to Loyola?

Why can’t OP finish apps sooner again?

even a weekend to knock out a PS Draft, request transcripts, beg professors to provide a quick turnaround on recommendations (i did this)etc. I would say this could be done in 2 weeks if it were all of OP’s focus

OP, you could try your chances with northwestern which is a MUCH better school than Loyola.

But yeah, it's kind of weird it will take you 4-5 months to do apps.. (?)

I am still on the fence about going to Loyola. Is it okay to start at one school, and then try to transfer after the first year? Or is that a terrible, terrible idea, I shouldn't even think about?

I am worried I won't be satisfied going to or graduating from Loyola if I never got to apply anywhere else.

Assuming you are not trolling, that should be a back-up plan if you can't break T20 from the beginning. I agree with a previous poster that with a 175 LSAT you should even consider trying to crack the T14.

This smells hella trolly though.

Bro, apply to Northwestern if you're dead set on staying in Chicago, it's definitely worth a try.

But why is it going to take you so long to do apps?

Do not matriculate to a school you wouldn't be happy graduating from.

It should not take longer than a weekend to put together a resume and decent personal statement and get your applications filled out.

Add in turn around time for letters of recommendation and getting transcripts processed, it will not take longer than two weeks to do this. Why can't it be done until April or May?
