Yale - waste of time?

Postby hermanberk » Thu Dec 07, 2017 3:25 am

My Yale application is the only one I haven't submitted, and upon further thought I'm starting to think I don't want to bother. But before officially giving up, I want to get a second opinion.

My numbers are close to median but not quite there: two LSAT takes that average out to a 174 and a 3.8x. Average softs and rec letters.

It's totally reasonable to say "I've got no shot at this school," give up on finishing my 250 and save a hundred bucks, yeah? Part of me is thinking ~ what if I have somewhat of a shot ~ but I can't imagine why Yale would admit someone with a below-median GPA and no special qualities.

You're spending $100 to never look back and think "what if." Worst case scenario you get rejected from Yale like 90% of applicants.

I feel the same way about applying to Y. I wholeheartedly agree with FN-2187 that it's worth the $100 to never have to wonder "what if."

Given the numbers you gave, you seem like a reasonably strong candidate. I think it would be worth a shot.

I do not think you should discount yourself for a mere 100$. You have strong credentials, and a reasonable shot. It's your last application; don't you think you should finish your cycle strong?

Remember that at least half of all people who get admitted are below at least one median. And you are above the LSAT median (the more important median) and potentially above the 25% for GPA. You have a pretty decent chance I'd say. Obviously, I don't know your financial situation, but so long as the fee would not be too painful I would definitely apply. If you can't afford the cost, I would at least look into getting a fee wavier.

This. It's their job to reject you--not your job to reject yourself.

I echo what everyone else is saying. You miss 100% of the shots you don't take.
