3.8 GPA / 164 LSAT

Hey all,

I have a 3.8 UGPA, 164 LSAT, and am half Hispanic, half Asian. I'm a first generation American aspiring to become an immigration lawyer, currently working in an immig. firm. I am wondering about my chances for T30 schools, such as BU, BC, Fordham, GW, and UCI.

Thanks!!

Where do you want to be an immigration lawyer?

You should aim higher - the lower T14 is very realistic with your profile.

You will get into all of these schools with substantial scholarship. I agree with above that you should aim higher. I'd also say, retaking wouldn't be a terrible idea. A 167 would open up a lot of schools for you.

Afaik that's not really necessary for immigration so no great upside to the massive debt.
Why are people saying aim higher? If it's to aim higher with a retake, sure. But explain to me why $250,000k in debt at a T14 beats a strong regional (in the regions they wish to work, presumably) here for immigration law.

I agree that OP should make cost a priority if they're set on immigration, but if nothing else a T13 acceptance could make a difference with T30 scholarship negotiation. Merit money isn't completely unrealistic at the T13 schools where OP is a reverse splitter (Duke, Boalt, Cornell), and $40k from one of those schools might turn into $100k from one of OP's target schools.

Send Berkeley an app and play up the first gen thing (they have a special scholarship iirc). GL

Thank you all for your comments! I have already sent most of these apps so retake is not really an option at the moment, unfortunately :| The 164 is from a second time taking the LSAT.

I am not sure where I want to practice yet...I have applied mostly in the east and west coast.

Thanks again.

I'm not sure that a retake is a good idea in your scenario, but you can always retake after sending in apps. There's no technical barrier to you doing it if you want to.
