GPA: 3.68 | LSAT: 174 | Softs: average to above-average (varsity athlete, on national mock trial championship team, president of three groups, prestigious internships, honors thesis, double-major, strong letters of rec) | LGBT+.

I am currently deciding if I should apply to Chicago ED knowing that it's very likely, or apply RD and hope that I will get into HYS. I am weighing the risk of applying RD and getting rejected from HYS AND Chicago against the possible downside of EDing to Chicago and passing up the chance at HYS.

Do not ED to Chicago. It won't help you, and it could very likely hurt you

That blog didn't exactly do the world's most reliable statistical study, but the main point was that it's fucking stupid to ED any school with the OP's numbers. This has been addressed in both of the OP's threads on the subject.

700% increase from a study based on the website that is posted here 100x a day as the most reliable source for 90% of people to check is good enough to assume there is probably an admissions boost for chicago ED applicants. And OP probably isn't getting HYS so if he just wants to have the best shot at the more elite gigs he could consider EDing Uchicago. Don't ED, do ED, I don't care. Just don't write that there it won't improve your odds when it will.

You have a good shot at good money from other top schools, and you still have a chance at Uchi without ED. And although your chances aren't too strong, if you were to get one of HYS, it would probably be H.

Under the narrow parameter you've listed, ED UChicago and know you'll not get HYS or apply RD and hope you get at least one of those four to bite, I would ED to UChicago.

Seems 50/50 to get UChicago RD (if the odds are even that good), very unlikely to get H, and almost no chance at YS. Coming away empty-handed if you apply RD should be a real concern.

I think most on this site who say not to ED at Chicago are saying that because you'll have better options at lower-ranked schools due to scholarships. However, if tuition is covered by another source responsibly and you are not at all worried about scholarships, then I say go for UChicago at ED.

However, if you are considering loans or your parent(s) or grandparent(s) are going to take a hit to their retirement accounts to pay for school, then opening yourself to more, cheaper schools is the better approach.

I'm really confused about what opportunities people think Chicago grads have that graduates from other T13 schools don't.

I know that Chicago is supposed to punch above its weight in academia, but since the OP didn't mention academia, I don't know what's spurring the frantic rush to apply there for more "elite gigs."

I basically had academia and fed. clerkships in mind.

If this is your cycle then Duke with money is calling your name OP

If you depend on financial aid or scholarship like most people, then don't apply ED. You will likely get huge scholarships at other schools in the t-13. If you had to be in Chicago, you could apply ED to Northwestern but you may get more money from regular decision there. Don't apply ED to U of Chicago.
