MA Female. 3.46 and 158

Post by uvahopeful2 » Wed Oct 18, 2017 5:01 pm

Mexican-American female applicant with a GPA of 3.46 and LSAT score of 158. Retaking is NOT an option.

-Undergraduate university is a top 10 public univ (FL)
-Will have all applications submitted by Oct 31
-Wrote detailed "Why X" essays for each school
-My personal statement, diversity statement, and Why X essays are hopefully very strong pieces of my application (used a consultant from PowerScore to make sure everything is perfect)
-Strong LORs from a professor and former employer

Softs:
-phi alpha delta
-State (1st) and National (2nd) champion for business competition
-2 years work experience (leasing manager and owner of a business)
-1 internship
-Founded a business while in college, have been working for it during my gap year
-Mentored high school students
-Overcame significant hardships

Applying to:

Columbia
NYU
U Penn
U Michigan
UVA (visited & took a guided tour a couple weeks ago)
Duke
Northwestern
Berkeley
Cornell
UT Austin
Georgetown
UCLA

Do I have a chance at any T14 schools? I wanted to apply ED to Northwestern for a chance at the scholarship they offer, but I don't think I'll have a chance after speaking with a law school application consultant. Where should I ED at to give me my best chances at being accepted? I really want to attend a T12 school but now I don't think I can with my #s.

**After some feedback, do I have any chances of getting into these schools?

ED at UT Austin
UCLA
Georgetown
Vandy
USC
Notre Dame
Emory
Arizona State

Retaking is absolutely an option. As it stands, if those are the schools you apply to with those numbers you're probably not going to law school.

You need to look lower than that if you don't plan on retaking (I would rule out almost everything above BU, and you would still be reaching at some schools below that). For all of the schools you listed you will at best be a splitter if you retake. The URM boost is big, but it is not big enough to get you in with your current numbers. Do you have a legitimate reason why you can't retake?

It's just not going to happen, even with an ED somewhere.
You either need to retake, set your sights a little lower (UF and FSU?), or make other plans for your career.

You're still at or below ASU's 25ths. Why isn't retaking an option? It's going to be the best route no matter how you slice it

EDIT: Misread GPA, but still, the point stands!

Check out the outcomes on mylsn.info (using the "URM, exclude AA" option). Just 2 points on the LSAT make a HUGE difference in your chances.

Someone flailing this much should not ED. Don't get stuck paying sticker somewhere random and not worth it.

Does my URM status offer no boost?

I does, but that boost still doesn't put you over the top as Nony said earlier.

you really need to retake. You're willing to throw hundreds of thousands of debt at the problem but not any more time and effort?

The boost is probably around 3 LSAT points for MA.

Everybody is already accounting for the URM boost.

Retake for at least a 165+ for a URM blanketing the t-14 with $. Stop being a prestige brown noser,if you must apply this cycle... FSU; Miami,Costal, and FU are within your current score percentile.. I would just retake though,if I were you.. Especially if your not fine, with attending the above mentiond schools. If you want to apply and get accepted to the t-14 RETAKE!

But don't you want to be able to say you got in to xx school because despite having to overcome adversity as URM, you still managed to make good grades and get an LSAT score to get into these schools?

Retaking is always an option. There's no situation where it's imperative to matriculate immediately and you will have an exponential return on your investment if you do the necessary work to get a 170+
