ED Options

Post by lawland » Thu Aug 31, 2017 2:12 pm

Hi All,

I'm posting here because there's not much info regarding ED on LSN/this forum.

My info:
GPA between 3.37-3.41
LSAT: 170
Maters degree in Engineering, work experience as an engineer.
Asian

Looking for my chances for an ED admission to the following:
Duke- Got Priority track application- First Choice
Michigan- 2nd choice
UVA- 3rd choice

I was thinking of Eding to Duke in mid Sept- get decision in 10 days due to priority application.
If not admitted, then ED UVA- get decision relatively early since it's UVA.
If not admitted then ED Michigan.

My goal is t14 in a college town (versus big city). But Duke is my first choice by a long shot.

I know the general consensus is that it's not worth EDing because of $, however, I am fortunately in a position where it's not too much of an issue.

Please don't quote!

Thanks!

I mean yeah I guess if you're willing to light $300k on fire for a minimal to non-existent bump in admissions then go for it.

I'm not sure my stats would get me anywhere near a full ride + COL at a t14. More like $45k max.

But yeah, $45k is not a small amount, but if it means getting into a t14 vs not getting into one, it might be worth the ROI.

Thanks.

If you are dead set on EDing, don't do it to Duke. Go ahead and submit the PT application, and if you get in forget about EDing anywhere, you'll know in less than 2 weeks. There is a very minimal boost at Duke IIRC for EDing and you may have the stats to get in just through PT.

Why on earth would you ED Duke if you qualified for priority track?

There is no such thing as ROI in this case. EDing these schools only increases your chances of paying a stupid amount of money for your degree. It does not help you get in.

Unless you're doing ED to NU or BU there's not much a reason to ED. Why bind yourself and remove negotiating scholarships without an automatic full ride guaranteed?
