<2.5gpa | >175 gpa
I've been looking at all of the LSN graphs (out of curiosity after using the predictors for outcomes in this range) and can't find anyone applying with above a 170-175 and less than a 2.7-2.5. Closest I think I saw was a 2.2 and a 167. Any of the OGs on here have any experience or input on odds of a t14 school, or t40 for that matter? I feel like the predictor algorithms are thrown off by the sheer size of the 175. Thoughts?
This is not a situation that I am in just something I can't find evidence on.
I saw the thread of the 2.2 with a 180 but could never find a follow up on the guy admissions wise, nor whether he was pulling our legs.

It can be difficult to predict the success of a super splitter. Best thing someone can do here is apply early and throw in an addendum if that's warranted. T13 might be possible, but they'll certainly be paying sticker if they do get an acceptance.

There are very few >170 and <3.0 data points even, so going more extreme will certainly reduce the data set. I think anyone with those numbers would have an interesting background, and if they could prove that the low GPA is not representative, most schools would consider them. I'm not as extreme a splitter as your hypothetical case (sub 3.0, low 170s) but I know outcomes vary greatly in the range I am in.

TBH, you should probably just search everything between a 2.0 and a 2.9. I don't really think the top law schools with 25%iles in the 3.5+ range are going to really treat a 2.0 much differently than a 2.9. Then again, I'm not an adcom, so I don't know for sure. I just think in that sub 3.0 area you really need to have something to replace your GPA as to why they want you.
It's a harder admissions game, but it's probably easier to establish a narrative around a x<3.0 than a 3.0<x<3.5.

I may go on LSN and message some of the people that i've seen sub 3.0 and close to 170. I would love to hear their stories, although I'm unsure how often they will actually be checking their message boxes after being accepted and attending their respective schools. I imagine some serious community work GPA addendum were required, or perhaps some strong LORs and an awe inspiring PS.

I've searched <2.75 >170 at select "splitter-friendly" schools, and I mean there aren't very many data points, but the ones that are there aren't overly discouraging. In the past two cycles at UVA, NU, GULC, and WUSTL, those students are 22/29 on being accepted, not counting URM. Of course take this with a grain of salt, I don't even remember which graphs and sites I used, plus who knows how representative that actually is.

Feel free to PM me if you'd like, my numbers were very similar (below 2.5 and above 175).
I had some unusual circumstances in my cycle, but I can back up what some folks here have said: Very slim shot at anywhere in the t14 (NU is best bet - with good work experience), but can potentially get some good $$ from T20 (especially WUSTL).

I am just going to guess a bit because there are so few examples to look at, I think your chances are:
HYS - Out
Columbia/NYU - <25% chance
Chicago - Out
Penn - Out
Berkley - Out
Michigan/UVA/Duke - 25% chance
NU - 30% chance
Cornell - Out
Gtown - 40% chance
I would expect waitlists from most of the ones where you have a chance. You will pay sticker no matter where you go in the T13 most likely.

Which means that, for someone comfortable with paying sticker, ED could be a smart approach at some schools.presidentspivey wrote: T13 might be possible, but they'll certainly be paying sticker if they do get an acceptance.

and I believe UVA is supposed to give the biggest t13 boost to ED candidates, so that's what I would recommend if OP is willing to pay sticker.

I was trying not to be a shill for my alma mater, but I agree with this. I'd probably start there as soon as the season opens and then if unsuccessful work through any other T-13 that promises a quick turnaround of ED applications so you can get as many as possible while still early in the cycle.guybourdin wrote:and I believe UVA is supposed to give the biggest t13 boost to ED candidates, so that's what I would recommend if OP is willing to pay sticker.
IMHO, for someone with those numbers and who is not debt adverse, UVA would be a very good outcome.
