I think that's a pretty amazing resume. How big is the difference between your PTs and the actual score?

Since you've already applied, you should see how the cycle turns out, but especially if you've only taken the LSAT once, you should be open to retaking the LSAT since you can probably perform closer to what you were PTing. You might still get in places because of your softs but you would probably not get as much $$.

Maybe retake in February or June so you can either decide to 1. use a higher score to get more scholly, or 2. if your score is great enough and you don't like your outcomes much, then take a year off and apply early next cycle.

I basically only decided to apply because a former college prof gave me some ancedotes from URM with lower scores.

Well, originally my goal was a 170 lol. But I realized that I couldn't score above 164.

I did include an addendum about dealing with PTSD symptoms and bad family life but..who knows how significant that is.
Given your URM and reverse splitter status, your cycle will be tough to predict. But if you don't get the outcomes you want, I'd highly recommend studying more and retaking (as much as that sucks). I bet you'll have some really spectacular options if you can move that LSAT closer to your target score.

Yes, but not sure how to pay off 100ks in debt unless I do the girlfriend experience and get hired as an in house attorney for Monsanto/insert evil corporation. Haha.

I'm young so I have time, theoretically, to apply again.
If you don't have a burning desire to be an attorney, then take your time and retake.

I'm hoping for some decent scholarships because I want to start my career now because frankly, while being a paralegal has been interesting - I want to be an attorney and to work in international human rights law. No time like the present to start. (The whole issue of job prospects is a whole other issue lol)
If you want international human rights law, you need to retake and get yourself into a school that realistically can put you in that field. That means T14, and realistically, it means HYSCCN. It's one of the more competitive PI fields to get a job in, so the school you go to and the job opportunities that school offers will matter.

I have a friend who started at Duke and transferred to Yale. And I quote: "I wanted to do international human rights law, but then I realized there's really no such thing".

You said earlier you could wait, but then you said you don't want to wait. I think maybe you should spend some time thinking about your priorities some more.

It's incredibly risky to go to law school wanting to be X type of attorney unless you'd be okay doing something else for several years if things don't turn out the way you want them to.

I asked you if you wanted to be an attorney and that's when you brought up you were young and could wait.

I'm not trying to pick on you or anything, I've just been in your shoes already.

Anyway, good luck with whatever you end up doing.

Since you say you already applied, this may be moot but in case you still have applications pending or go through another cycle:

You mentioned that you are mixed black/latina and I infer from the fact that you say you speak some quechua that your latina side comes from Peru, Bolivia, or Ecuador?

If so, best play up the black side of your heritage for URM purposes, as I have heard it said that many schools only afford URM status to Mexican/Puerto Rican latin@s.

Nah. But also, hard to play up one side when you're mixed.

The only reason why I know Quechua is because I did anthropology research in the Amazon rain forest when I was in college. It sounds more impressive than it actually is and ended up being really dangerous for me..

Sorry, getting off topic here but I think the lowland quechua-hablantes are really fascinating. I know there are some in Ecuador and a few very dispersed communities in Peru. I heard some hypotheses that they moved down into the rainforest to escape the Inca, but it seems plausible that they operated trading posts to supply the Inca with things like feathers, pelts, and coca.

What is your understanding of the origins of these communities? Linguistically i think they are not very separate at all from highland Quechua

With regards to your PT Scores, take a break for a while (a few weeks or even months) and then start again. Reaching a plateau is a thing, and your brain needs some time to rewire itself to become great at this test. I started at around 155 and couldnt get higher than 165-167, then let it go for a few months and resumed. Plateaud and rested again before scoring 174 on the real thing. So don't sweat it, if you really want a high score it's doable. Just take your time.
